Andy Lau may soon have an-
swers to the questions they are
curious to ask about his private
life following Tuesday’s death
of the father of his long-time
Malaysian girlfriend Carol Chu.
Are Lau and Chu already
married and are they parents to
a school-going girl? If not, will
they get married in the next 100
days?
According to Chinese cus-
tom, if Chu – assuming that she
is still single – does not wed
within 100 days of her father’s
death she will have to wait three
years before she can marry.
For the answer to the first
question, fans are holding their
breath as they wait for the obitu-
ary of Chu’s father to see if Lau’s
name appears on it.
The obituary will also be a
giveaway whether Chu has a
daughter fathered by Lau as
rumoured.
According to the Chinese
press, Chu, the third of six sib-
lings and the apple of her father’s
eye, rushed back to Malaysia on
Tuesday accompanied by Lau,
and was at her father’s bedside
when he breathed his last at 73
after brain surgery.
Although Chu was spotted
at her family home in Bukit
Jalil where the bereaved family
is holding a wake, there was no
sign of Lau’s whereabouts. But
the closely guarded wake and
family’s aversion to reporters
staking out the premises seemed
to suggest that Lau was inside
the house.
Although Lau, 47, has never
openly admitted that Chu, 42, is
the woman behind him for the
last 24 years, their close relation-
ship is an open secret.
Rumours about the duo
include one that claimed they
secretly registered their mar-
riage in Canada in 1992 and have
a daughter who is attending
school in Hongkong.
In February this year, Lau
was photographed meeting
Chu’s father in Kuala Lumpur to
discuss his plans to wed Chu in
April, but nothing materialised
after the news leaked out.
After Lau called off the wed-
ding, Chu reportedly moved out
of Lau’s bungalow in Hongkong.
It is believed her father’s big-
gest regret was not being able to
witness her wedding.
