Henry Schein United Kingdom celebrates Ground Breaking for Construction of New Headquarters Facility in Gillingham
Expanded state-of-the-art facilities underscores Henry Schein UKs commitment to providing superior service to customers Energy efficient and environmentally sustainable construction ensures protection of natural habitat and local animal species while minimizing the impact on the community Gillingham, 06 December 2013 Henry Schein, Inc. (NASDAQ: HSIC), the worlds largest provider of health care products and services to office-based dental, animal health and medical professionals, celebrated the ground breaking for the construction of its new state of the art facilities on Bailey Drive in Gillingham. The event, held on November 25, 2013, was attended by Rehman Chishti, MP and Henry Schein executives. The new energy-efficient facility, scheduled for completion during Quarter 2 of 2014, will be the main office and distribution centre serving Henry Schein UK dental and medical customers. Henry Schein is a company that has been based at Medcare House on the Gillingham Business Park since 1995 and currently employs in the region of 350 local people, specialising in the distribution of dental, medical and veterinary healthcare products. The new facility will increase the number of people employed on the site to 650. We are honoured to celebrate the ground breaking for the construction of our new state-of-theart facility with MP Rehman Chishti, said Simon Gambold, Managing Director of Henry Scheins dental and medical business in the UK. This project underscores our deep commitment to providing exceptional service and the broadest range of products and services to our dental, animal health and medical customers in the UK, added Mr. Gambold. As part of Henry Scheins dedication to environmental responsibility, we have ensured that every element of the planning and construction of our new energy-efficient facility has taken into account the needs of the surrounding environment. Over the course of the project, Henry Schein will spend more than 150,000 to ensure the protection of the surrounding natural habitat and local animal species, including environmentally sensitive vegetation clearance; the protection and translocation of birds, lizards, mammals and other animals currently inhabiting the development site; and periodic visits from a trained ecologist on site. Henry Schein worked closely with the Medway Council to ensure there will be minimal impact on the community, including the planting of mature trees to create a 20-meter (60 foot) acoustic and visual barrier between the building and nearby homes on the south and west sides. The construction project, designed by The Harris Partnership, Ltd., will be built in two phases. The first phase will consist of 2,043 square metre (22,000 sq. ft.) of office space spanning two floors and the construction of a 5,832 square metre (63,000 sq. ft.) state-of-the-art warehouse facility for storage and distribution of dental, animal health and medical products. Phase two will allow for the development of a further 3,934 square metre (42,500 sq.ft.) of warehouse space. . - more -
