Tips for General Essay Selection of the topic ? Aspirants can spend 15 minutes on deciding the topic.

What are the criteria which one should look in to before selecting a topic?.. One s aim he re is to score mark and not to express who he is. Hence the topic selected shoul d be one with minimum controversies. There should be minimum diverse public opin ion about the topic which you are choosing. For example topics like reservation in educational institutions, Presidential or parliamentary form of government et c. should be avoided. Because there are diverse opinion about these topics and w e need to balance our essay to satisfy any type of examiner. This is a herculean task. We may land in trouble. There are few topics about which there will be no debate. Terrorism, Cinema, culture etc. are topics which needs minimum balancin g. Hence one will not land in trouble. Before choosing the topic read all the words in the topic carefully and check t hat there is no ambiguity in the meaning of the words. If there is any confusion are if you are not confident about the meaning better avoid the topic. Number of words to write. 950 to 1300 words are sufficient to remain safe. Too little the words very little will be the scope for you to impress the examiner. Too many w ords you write more are the chances for you to commit mistakes. Rough work After selecting a good topic try to spend 20 minutes for rough work. Take the last few pages of your answer sheet and try to generate points fo r your answer. Extend your horizon of thinking and try to analyse the topic in a number of spheres like social, political, economic, environmental, medical etc. The initial few pages are going to decide your marks. Hence it is better to pen down your full introduction in the rough work column. ? The actual essay. The most important thing one should note is the examiner will n ot check your communication skill from your essay. So word your essay using simp le and easy words. Do not make a complex and lengthy statements. Try to write sm all and simple statements without mistakes. Do not worry too much about grammat ical errors. There is no need to write introduction, content and conclusion before the actual introduction, content etc. You can sub divide your essay and y ou can give a number of sub headings. This will make the job of examiner easy. A dding flowcharts and diagrams will also enhance the quality of your essay. It is not a rule that you should mention famous quotes or defin itions in your answer. If you want to mention a quote make it sure that it is re levant to the essay. If not simply avoid it because it will not fetch you any ex tra mark. If it is wrongly quoted then you may land in trouble. Try to make your essay very interesting by giving contemporary examples. Your es say should be very lively so that the examiner will feel happy to read it. Even if it is full of information but if it is not lively you may not get the liking of the examiner. Try to balance your essay and always take a mid dle position. Never take a extreme position in any topic. Conclusion. Your conclusion should brief your opinion and may d iscuss the future of that subject. All the best.
