Christmas Movie
Student Council Update

Lower school students chose a movie for Fridays Christmas festivities by vote recently. The winning movie for grade 2 to 12 is Rise of the Guardians. The Pre K -Grade 2 will have another movie, Mickeys Christmas Carol. I hope everyone enjoys the show!

Show was on November 22. We held it in the theater as we do every year. There was a robot called Hostbot invented by Matthew, who was the host of the show. There was also a Hostbot played by K e v i n Z h a n g . Tw o teachers were also in the show. They were ninjas. I performed in the show. I played the piano. There were two tunes I

Hungarian Dance No. 5 by Brahms. The other was Liebestraum, which means Dream of Love, but I dont remember who wrote it. Many other people performed too. Even the teacher s performed in the show! There was singing and dancing and Korean drums. A lot of people played the piano. I had a fun day watching and performing in the show. Hope you did, too!

Whats Up Spotlight

Roy: Where do you like to be a nurse more, at a school or at a hospital? Ms. Fang: I like working at a school more. The kids make me happy. Roy: Where are you from? Ms. Fang: I am from Shanghai City. Roy: If you watch a movie about being a nurse, how do you feel? Ms. Fang: I feel proud! Have you met our incredible school nurse?

R e c e n t l y I , R oy t h e C h e e s e interviewed Ms. Xu Yue Fang, our school nurse. She is very kind to all the students at QISS. She has been Ms. Xu Yue Fang tells us what it takes to become a nurse. at QISS for 4 years. She knows a lot of students at QISS and she is a very good nurse. I asked Ms. Fang what it takes to become a nurse. I was surprised to nd out that nurses and doctors study and learn for a long time. Our school nurse was such a good student that her teacher gave her some presents. That`s why she does such an excellent job at caring and helping our sick and hurt students. I wanted to nd out more about Ms. Fang, so I asked her a few more questions. Roy: Why did you become a nurse? Ms. Fang: I liked taking care of people, so I went to the college to study nursing.

Fun and Fabulous After School Activity Programs

Our new After School Activity Program started on Nov 11, 2013. The activities end in February. There are still no activities on Wednesday, because all the teachers have a meeting to go to at that time. I am going to three different activities. One is this newsletter! I signed up for it in August. It is an activity ran by Ms. Nadine and Mr. Bertholet. I go to it all year. We make newsletters during this activity. My second activity is called Stop Motion Animation Time. This is also an activity led by Ms. Nadine and it is about making animations with still images. Our rst project is a Flipbook Animation. We use a sticky note pad for this project. If you want to know how to make drawings that move, follow the instructions beneath! 1. Get an empty book or a sticky note pad. 2. Use your pencil to draw an object. 3. Press your paper against a window. You can look through it, right? Pay attention! This step is kind of tricky. 4. Trace what you drew, but move your object a little bit.

We also started a stop motion activity using iPads. We found some items like balls, paper, and pompoms. We also created things out of paper or drew then moved our object as we took pictures. Its kind of like the ipbooks, but we can make it into videos with sound. We can already see our stor y moving because iPads have a little gallery at the bottom,. You can press your nger on the rst picture of the animation and move it to the last picture. Its a fun way to make an animation. My last activity is the Holiday Crafts by Ms. Victoria. We make crafts like Christmas trees made of salt dough. We need to wear old T-shirts in that activity because we might get messy.

The Bizarre Planet

! Once upon a time, there was a planet called Wind planet. It was made in the Milky Way during one of the leap years. Some people think that the Wind planet isnt real but it is real because this planet is where the gods live. ! One day, a fairy heard about the Wind planet and wondered if it is real. She decided she would take a trip there. She packed all of her things and took a rocket car into space. In 2 hours, she reached the wind planet. ! The fair y stepped down out of the rocket car and saw a beautiful gold

castle. There was also a silver castle. She was so curious that she went inside one of the castles. 20 minutes passed while she explored the gold and silver castles. She decided Wind planet is actually quite boring so she went out of the palace and took a space taxi back to the fairy planet. The end.

QISS Winter Program

The QISS Winter Program was a fun and successful event! It was on the 7th of December. All the grades had songs to sing or dances to dance.

The 1st graders sang a song called Theres Joy. They also sang a song called My Dreidel. They were The grade 3, 4, and 5 good songs! students sang on the The 2nd graders sang a risers. We had 6 songs song called Jingle Bells to sing. Do you want to and they performed a know the songs? We dance named Trepak sang: from The Nutcracker . Shout! They used ribbons for the dance. The Santa Claus Rock It was a wonderful Merry Christmas Time afternoon! O Christmas Tree North Pole Rock N Roll
