December Meeting Preview The meeting opened with a moment of silence for the victims of Super Typhoon Haiyan in the Philippines. Jeanette Beck, representative of Councilman James Oddo, offered a reminder to homeowners to register for the STAR property tax relief program before December 31. A link has been provided on our website. Councilman Elect Steve Matteo discussed his planned initiatives of the upcoming term for NYC Council district 50. Paul Marone, Chief of Staff to Assemblywoman Malliotakis, explained the Common Core Curriculum Standards that have been adopted by our statewide schools, and discussed the effort to save the property of Mount Manresa from development. NYPL Childrens Librarian, Barbara Byrne-Goldie, announced the upcom- ing slate of programs, available for all ages, for the winter season. The time since this meeting occurred, an announcement was made by Governor Cuomo regarding an issue that which we lent our support to several years agothe conservation of Pouch Camp. Funding had been made available to purchase the land described in Phases 2 & 3 of the plan,. Which guarantees approximately 83% of the property will be preserved.
