Meanwhile, in Bukit Mertajam,
PAS vice-president Datuk Mahfuz
Omar described Mohd Radzhi’s
move to quit PKR as a clean up
process in the opposition pact.
Saying that Mohd Radzhi was
a burden to Pakatan, Mahfuz said
the party was not surprised with
the move.
“We don’t want to be bur-
dened by him,” he told a news
conference at the PAS operations
centre for the Permatang Pasir
state by-election, here.
With Mohd Radzhi’s deci-
sion to become an independent,
Kedah PKR is now left with only
four assemblymen, PAS (16),
Barisan Nasional (14) and one
for DAP.
Mahfuz also said Mohd Radzhi
should resign as assemblyman
as it was clear that the voters
in Lunas wanted a PKR leader.

In view of this, the report
said Perak MCA could be the
first state to fire a salvo at Ong.
A grassroots leader said apart
from making a public appeal,
the supporters will write to the
board to request that Ong be
suspended until he is proven
innocent over the allegation.
“Although one is innocent
until proven guilty under the
law, the president has the
power to make decisions
involving money and public
interest, and we do not wish
that doubts continue to be cast
on the number one chair in
the party during this awkward
period.”
Chua supporters also
dismissed an SMS being
circulated in Perak on Sunday
which purportedly contained
a message from deputy
secretary-general and state
deputy chairman Datuk Loke
Yuen Yow to Ong that the
deputy president is launching
an extraordinary general meet-
ing to topple him.
The supporters believe it
could have been circulated to
cast aspersions on Chua.
Meanwhile, Loke has denied
having sent the SMS and at-
tributed it to rumour-mongers
out to create confusion and to
dent party morale.

MACC questions MCA treasurer-general

PUTRAJAYA: The Malaysian
Anti-Corruption Commission
(MACC) questioned MCA treas-
urer-general Tan Sri Tee Hoch
Seng yesterday on the allegation
made by Kuala Dimensi Sdn Bhd

Seri Tiong King Sing that he had
“donated” RM10 million to party
president Datuk Seri Ong Tee
Keat.
Speaking to reporters after a
two-hour interview at the MACC
headquarters here, Tee said he
together with MCA chief admin-
istrator Lim Chin Hai were called
in to facilitate investigations into
the allegation.
“They (MACC) had asked
about my background and my
family background, as well as
on the party constitution as to
whether we can accept donations
or not and who has the power to
sign cheques.
“We were also asked if the
party had received RM10 million
(from Tiong) and we told them we
had never received the money,”
he said, adding he had submitted
the party accounts for 2007 and
2008 to the commission.
Asked if the MACC had also
obtained the donors list, which
recorded the details of people
who donated money to the party,
Tee admitted that the list and
copies of donation receipts had
been given to the commission.
“The list only contains the
details of donors who donated
to the party during the 50th
National Day celebration in 2007
and general election in 2008. We
do not have any donation this
year,” he said.
Tee added that the commis-
sion will contact Lim if it needs
more information. He also said
he was not told if Ong would be
summoned for questioning.
He also stressed that there
is nothing wrong for the party
to accept donations as the party
constitution stipulates that dona-
tions can be part of the party in-
come. Tiong, who is also Barisan
Nasional Backbenchers’ Club
chairman, made the allegation on
Aug 12 after KDSB, the turnkey
developer for the controversial
RM4.9 billion Port Klang Free
Zone (PKFZ) project, was al-
leged to have been involved in
irregularities of between RM500
million and RM1 billion in a
report by the PKFZ special task
force.
The Barisan Nasional Back-
benchers’ Club chairman was
questioned by the MACC on the
donations controversy and the
PKFZ scandal the next day.
On Friday, Tiong had also
urged MACC to investigate Ong
and his wife’s bank accounts.
