SPECIAL MAINTENANCE INSTRUCTION No RDSO/ PE / SMI/ EMU/ 0037 2007(Rev.0) (Rev.0) of 2007 1.0 TITLE: Maintenance schedule for EMUs (AC & DC) and MEMUs. 2.0 APPLICATION: All 25 KV BG AC & DC EMUs and MEMUs. 3.0 OBJECTIVE : To maintain uniform periodicity in Maintenance schedule for EMUs (AC & DC) and MEMU by all Railways. 4.0 INSTRUCTIONS: a) There is no need to review periodicity and inspection schedules for DC EMU stock. The existing schedule for AOH / POH / 9 monthly should be followed by CR & WR for DC EMUs (till DC EMUs are in service) b) The various maintenance schedules & their periodicity for AC EMU/MEMU stock as given in (para k) should also be applicable to AC DC EMU stock plying in Mumbai area. c) Items given in Annexure B pertains to passenger amenities. Due attention to be paid to these items from trip inspection onwards. d) Maintenance schedules and their periodicity is given as Annexure A e) There may be some items for which individual Railways may adopt slightly different periodicity, depending upon loading pattern and local operational conditions. These changes may be adopted with the approval of respective Chief Electrical Engineer. Railways can add more equipment / activities to this list depending on local conditions with the approval of CEEs. f) Considering the loading pattern and problems in bogies to ensure safety and reliability, POH schedule for AC EMU, as 18 months should be followed. The other inspection schedules i.e. Daily / night inspection, trip inspection (10 days), IA (45 days) & IC (180 days) to be followed.

g) Interval of 18 months to be followed for POH schedule of MEMUs. Due to problems in bogie, operation to long distances and almost same loading pattern as of EMU, the POH schedule should be followed in line with EMU i.e. 18 months. The other inspections similar to EMU should be followed. h) CLEANING SCHEUDLE: Washing of exteriors & wet mopping of interiors shall be done during trip inspection and brooming must be done at night stabling points every day.

i) ITEMS FOR DAILY CHECKING AT NIGHT STABLING POINTS 1. Visual Inspection of wheels for cracks, checking of axle boxes, its cover and bolts. 2. Check axle guide springs, bolsters spring swings links, bogie frame and all brake riggings. Also check schaku couplers and side buffers. 3. Check brake blocks for their position and replacements if required. 4. Drain main reservoirs. 5. Check auxiliary and main compressor for their oil level. 6. Check gear case suspension housing bolts etc. 7. Check all compartment lights & fans. 8. Check and test horns, wiper, dead man device, guard emergency brake. 9. Check and clean head code look out glasses. 10. Check fire extinguishers, locking of HT compartment, driving cabs. 11. Ensure all indications lamps functioning. 12. Formation testing from both the ends and brake testing. 13. Check for all hoses, air pipes. 14. Specially check headlights, taillight and flasher lights. 15. Check for battery voltage. 16. Visual check for any oil leakage from transformer, choke, radiator and pipe lines. 17. Go through the motorman logbook and attend the defects booked during the run. 18. Record in the logbook any other abnormalities, which need attention in shed, but ensure safety and reliability.
