Napoleon Hills 73-Year-Old Unreleased Manuscript, Outwitting the Devil, Releases June 7 International Bestselling Author Sharon Lechter Annotates Hills Controversial Writings from 1938, Creates Powerful Teachings for a New Generation
Surviving decades in a private vault because of its controversial claims, an unpublished manuscript by Napoleon Hill, written as the sequel to the bestselling success book of all time Think and Grow Rich, will finally be released nationwide June 7 more than 73 years after it was originally drafted. Written by Hill in 1938, hidden from the public until this year and only known to exist by a handful of individuals, Outwitting the Devil identifies and confronts lifes greatest obstacles fear, procrastination, anger and jealously which stand in the way of success. The book recognizes these obstacles as tools of the devil that can lead to personal demise, but Hill reveals seven principles to triumph over them and succeed. Confronting in nature, Outwitting the Devil challenges politics, religion, public education and other society influences with revelations and solutions that still hold true today. The book stands to be a powerful inspiration to a new generation, just as Hill inspired millions to lead successful lives in 1937 with the release of Think and Grow Rich during the Great Depression. Despite his success as a published author, Outwitting the Devil was never released due to fears by his family and friends that it was too controversial. The original manuscript stayed within Hills family long after he passed away until a few years ago when it was turned over to the Napoleon Hill Foundation, an educational nonprofit dedicated to promoting his principles. The foundation, deciding now was the time for his unpublished work to be read, enlisted the help of Sharon Lechter, bestselling co-author of Three Feet from Gold and international bestselling co-author of Rich Dad Poor Dad, to release this book to the public. Lechter brings Hills original writing to life by annotating it with insight for todays audience. Outwitting the Devil, even though written in 1938, was actually meant to be published today, Lechter said. Although Napoleon Hill could not have known it then, this book was intended to provide answers during todays uncertain economic and spiritual times, the same way that Think and Grow Rich helped pull the country out of the Great Depression. It offers powerful and sometimes chilling lessons that hold the secrets to achieving personal success and fully executing many of his original teachings. The book begins with Hills personal anecdote of what led him to write Outwitting the Devil, including his famous meeting with Andrew Carnegie in 1908, which launched his lifelong mission of helping others achieve personal achievement. Hill also describes one of his lowest moments in the 1920s where he feared for his life, causing him to retreat into a hypnotic state of self contempt. It was this experience that later led to an epiphany where he discovers his other self and confronts the devil, leaving it up to readers to decide for themselves if hes speaking to the actual devil or a metaphorical one. In a courtroom-style interrogation, Hills interview with the devil reveals how negative thoughts like fear can paralyze a person from reaching full potential. Seven principles are revealed including learning from adversity and having definiteness of purpose in life which can help the reader successfully outwit their own devil. Lechters annotations help modernize this decades-old book by pointing out how Hills teachings apply to modern times. For example, Lechter compares todays recession to Hills references about the Great Depression, asks thought-provoking questions to help readers execute Hills lessons and concludes that it is never too late for a new beginning. In addition to Lechters annotations throughout the book, a forward is provided by Mark Victor Hansen, co-creator of bestselling series Chicken Soup for the Soup. The afterword is written by Michael Barnard Beckwith, author of Spiritual Liberation: Fulfilling Your Souls Potential.
