A CityBiz report

It was hardly a surprise when Pat Llodra appeared on the WFSB Sunday morning talk show Face the State on Dec. 1 and made a pointed plea to the media to stay away from Newtown, Conn., on Dec. 14. Thats the anniversary of the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting. Pat Llodra is the First Selectman of Newtown, a mostly anonymous leader until she became the official voice of the grieving after the Sandy Hook shooting last year. Whenever there is news regarding the Sandy Hook shooting, Llodra is the one who often responds for those in town.

Mark Barden

Many of the families of lost children at Sandy Hook have chosen to remain out of public view as they grieve. But some have stepped forward to take an active role in response to their loss. Mark Barden is one of them. Barden lost his son, Daniel, 6, in the Sandy Hook shooting. And since then he has worked to promote gun control. It was Mark Barden who introduced President Obama in the Rose Garden after the U.S. Senate voted to block expanded background checks for gun sales.

Stephen Sedensky
Sedensky is the states attorney responsible for the investigative report on the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting and was criticized for the delay in issuing a report. His efforts to prevent the release of the 911 recordings from that morning drew criticism from those who believe he tried to circumvent Freedom of Information public records requirements.

Scott Wilson

Wilson is president of the Connecticut Citizens Defense League, a gun-rights advocacy group based in Groton, Conn. Wilson has been a vocal opponent of gun-control laws that have been pushed since Sandy Hook. His CCDL joined with the Coalition of Connecticut Sportsmen to file a federal lawsuit challenging the constitutionality of a new state law in response to the Sandy Hook shooting that bans certain guns and magazines in Connecticut.

Momsdemandaction.org! Moms Demand Action is marking the anniversary with its No More Silence campaign to honor the lives lost and to show its resolve never to be silent again about the epidemic of gun violence.

Monte Frank

Monte Frank is a Sandy Hook resident, Danbury attorney and board member of the Newtown Action Alliance. He has provided pro bono legal representation to Newtown families of victims as well and been a staunch supporter of gun control laws.
