Ranger Raphael Allens program explores the media campaign that called women to do their part.

Meet a ranger at the Rosie the Riveter Memorial in Marina Bay Park for a 45 minute program exploring civilian contributions to the WWII American Home Front.

The Port Chicago Disaster and Its Aftermath 1/12 and 1/26 at 3 PM

What kinds of questions were sailors and civilians asking after 1 million pounds of explosives blew up in Concord?

MONDAYS:
Dogs for Defense 1/6, 1/13, 1/27 at 2 PM
Learn about how thousands of American families donated their family dogs to assist soldiers on the front lines and on the home front.

TUESDAYS:
Ranger Talk by Betty Soskin 1/7, 1/14, 1/21, 1/28 at 2 PM
Ranger Betty Soskin discusses her experience as a young African American woman during WWII.
All tours and programs take place at the Visitor Center unless otherwise noted.

WEDNESDAYS:
Wartime Playtime: Toys and Games in World War Two 1/8, 1/22 at 2 PM
Learn about how American children played their way through the war, often with kid-sized uniforms, toy guns, and model airplanes and ships. After the talk, view examples of historic toys on display in our visitor center.

THURSDAYS:
Blossoms and Thorns 1/2, 1/9, 1/16, 1/23, 1/30 at 2 PM
Docent Flora Ninomiya screens the lm Blossoms and Thorns, and shares her childhood experiences in a WWII internment camp.

FRIDAYS:
Rosie Meet and Greet! 1/3, 1/10, 1/17, 1/24 and 1/31, from 10 AM-2 PM
A perfect opportunity for the public to meet a group of actual Rosies who worked in the Kaiser shipyards during WWII.

SATURDAYS:

Presentation by Professor Mark Brilliant 1/18 at 3 PM

Cal Berkeley professor Mark Brilliant will discuss his 2010 book, The Color of America Has Changed: How Racial Diversity Shaped Civil Rights Reform in California, 19411978.

Volunteer Training

We are looking for a few more volunteers to work in our visitor center. New volunteers must be available on weekends or weekday afternoons. All are required to attend training on February 8th and 22nd, and must commit to working at least 8 hours/month. Please contact Lucien Sonder by January 15th if interested: lucien_sonder@nps.gov
