What is Plant Biology?

Plant Biology is the science of plant life and a branch of biology that also includes many more sub branches such as cellular and molecular biology, genetics, development, evolution, physiology and biochemistry.

Early Plant Biology

Plant Biology originated as herbalism, the study and use of plants for their medicinal properties Early Plant Biology works have been found in ancient literature dating back to before 1100 BC During the 18th century, systems of plant identification were developed, where unidentified plants are placed into taxonomic group and heredity that originated with Gregor Mendel and Weismann. The work of Katherine Esau (18981997) on plant anatomy is the major foundation of modern botany.

Current Trends in Plant Biology

Plant Sciences has emerged drastically from basic plant biology to ecology Many sub branches have evolved such as plant molecular studies to evolutionary statistics Thus this is improved the scope of the field opening up many challenges in the field. The recognition that it is increasingly difficult for specialists to keep up to date with the expanding volume of information getting updated.

Challenges to face
Stepping forward toward meeting the challenges facing the world: improved nutrition increased crop yield resistance to pests sustainable biofuels raw materials for industry serious environmental problems, etc.,

Open Opportunities
Members interested in the areas of plant biology such as Plant-Microbe Interactions, Genetic Improvement of crops, Molecular Mechanisms of Abiotic Stress Responses, Epigenomics, Bioenergy, and other emerging areas linked with Agriculture, Climate Science and Environment, to develop novel research and teaching programmes in biotech science at the interface of multiple disciplines
