Scheduling Inspections

Direct all inspection requests to the Building Division Fire Inspectors at 384-3802. The PDS Fire Inspector shall perform a final inspection before occupancy is approved. The plan review fee shall provide for the cost of two (2) Fire Department inspections of each required inspection category. A fee of $46.31 shall be charged for each additional inspection performed because of noncompliance by the owner or the owners agent (BMC 7-01-14). The Cashier will call when plans are available for pick-up and advise amount of fee if applicable. (BMC 7-01-13) Approved plans are held for pick-up at the Permits/Cashier Counter. It is unlawful to commence any work or cause work to be commenced before obtaining the necessary permits (BMC 7-01-08). Fire alarm companies and installers are required to have a license to perform work within Boise City limits. Obtain licenses at the City Clerks office (150 North Capitol Blvd, PO Box 500 Boise, Idaho 83701-0500) or call them at 384-3802. The code items listed in this report are not intended to be a complete listing of all possible code requirements in the 2009 International Fire Code. It is a guide to selected sections of referenced codes. Any omission in this review does not constitute a waiver and shall not relieve the applicant of the responsibility of compliance with this Code (IFC 105.4.4).

Scope
This fire alarm permit is to provide a fire alarm system for sprinkler system monitoring. This scope of work includes a pull station, a smoke detector, and monitoring sprinkler tamper switches and flow switches (including floor control valves). Associated building permit: BLD12-01910

General Comments - No response required. To be field verified


1. A copy of the Fire Department approved plans and plan review must be on site at all times until the project has been inspected and approved by the Boise City Fire Department. (BMC 7-01-48) 2. Prior to inspection the Inspection and Testing Form (2010 NFPA 72, Figure 14.6.2.4), including a copy of the supervising station signals report, shall be presented to the field inspector at the time of inspection. Final approval is contingent upon satisfactory fire alarm testing in accordance with NFPA 72, witnessed by the field inspector. 3. A Record of Completion form (2010 NFPA 72, 10.18.2.1.1) shall be prepared in advance and presented to the field inspector for signature upon satisfactory completion, demonstration and operation of the fire alarm system. (2009 IFC 907.8.2). 4. This building is fully sprinklered. All valves controlling the water supply for automatic sprinkler systems and water-flow switches on all sprinkler systems shall be electrically monitored and shall be automatically transmitted to an approved supervising station, central station, remote station or proprietary monitoring station. 2009 IFC 903.4 The field inspector shall verify all valves and flow switches are included and acceptable dual phone lines or acceptable means of transmission to an approved offsite monitoring service is provided 2010 NFPA 72 26.6.3.2.1.4 5. Latching or self-restoring supervisory audible and visual signals shall be indicated within 90 seconds at the following locations, (1) Fire Alarm Control Unit. (2) Building Fire Command Center for Emergency Voice/Alarm Communication Systems. (3) Supervising Station. 2010 NFPA 72, 10.11.3, 10.11.4 and 23.8.5.7.2 6. An approved audible automatic sprinkler waterflow alarm shall be connected to every automatic sprinkler system. Alarm devices shall be provided on the exterior of the building in approved location. 2009 IFC 903.4.2 If this alarm is connected to the fire alarm system, it must be wired so it cannot be silenced from the FAC panel; unless an indication light located at the riser remains illuminated while the alarm is in the silence position. 2010 NFPA 13 A.6.9.4 7. The location of smoke detectors shall be in accordance with 2010 NFPA 72. Detectors shall not be located where air flow prevents operation of the detectors or less than 3' from any supply or return air diffuser. 2010 NFPA 72 17.7.4.1 8. The fire alarm control panel and all other control units must be on a dedicated electrical circuit. Shall have red markings and identified as Fire Alarm Circuit. Circuit breakers shall have limited access or be provided with a circuit breaker lock. The location and number of the electrical circuit breaker shall be indicated at the control panel. 2010 NFPA 72, 10.5.5.1; 10.5.5.2

9. The mounting height for manual pull stations shall be a minimum of 42 inches and a maximum of 48 inches measured vertically, from the floor level to the activating handle or lever of the box. 2009 IFC 907.5.2.2 10. A building map shall be posted at the FACP indicating the type and location of all alarm initiating devices, by device address or zone number. Provide a map reflecting the floor plan and all initiating device locations. 2010 NFPA 72 10.16.3 11. A Knox box shall be provided near the entrance; exact location to be determined on site by the fire department. A map indicating the location of the fire alarm control panel shall be provided in the Knox box. 2009 IFC 506; BMC 7-01-39 12. Signs shall be posted on the doors leading to the fire alarm control panel and the sprinkler riser rooms. 1009 IFC 509.1.
