Lighting Costs - The True Facts

To illuminate a large area (warehouse, production, retail sheds) the traditional light source would have been a Metal Halide lamp (low bay or High bay) due to its efficiencies and colour rendering. Using the latest technology in Controls and Reflector Materials we have seen this traditional light source switching from Metal halide to various fluorescent options.

FACT: Metal Halide lamps have a 30000hrs lamp life, which will be further increased when dimming. FACT: Metal Halide lamps are unaffected by the ambient temperature. FACT: T5 suffers severe difficiencies when
operated outside a 35 ambient and lamp life reduced when dimmed.

A PIR allows the lights to be dimmed during times when they are not required, in this instance the lights can be dimmed up to 65% (44hrs) of the time during non operational hours giving a potential saving of 1219.

Photocells
On average the U.K has 4 hours of sunlight/day. The introduction of a photocell would allow the V5 system to reduce the lighting levels accordingly whilst the sun is providing natural day light. By reducing the power by 50% for 4hrs per day could save an additional 428 Incorporating a PIR and Photocell an annual saving of 1647 or, a 40% reduction in running costs when compared to the fluorescent equivalent.
