down and grout the joints in place.

Early morning fog burned off, giving way to blue skies and
white clouds as several small boats cruised in the Bay to
get a first-hand view of the 300-foot gap in the bridge,
where the old section was removed.

"This is history," said Ney, the Caltrans spokesman. "You

will not see a big gap in the Bay Bridge like this ever again."
