Mrs. Lubys class Thank you for all the help with our Snowflake Party before the break. Everyone had a wonderful time quessing their Secret Snowflakes and opening their gifts. I hope everyone enjoyed their breaks with family, friends, snow or warm weather activities, Hoot the Owl has come to Spring Street School to help us raise money through Box Tops for Education! Each month, classrooms will have the opportunity to host Hoot for the month by collecting the most Box Tops! TeamLuby would love to have Hoot join us, so start cutting out those Box Tops! Our Family Traditions Museum will be held on Wed., Jan. 15 from 9:15 10:00 AM in the cafeteria. Organizers are due on Wed. Jan. 8. Invitations will be coming home soon! As the New Year begins, we will continue to focus on a variety of different writing styles narrative, opinion and infomative. Math will become more involved with story problems, longer multiplication and division as well as fractions. Check out the websites under TeamLuby for more practice. Science continues with simple machines talk with your child about possible inventions! Social studies focuses on rights and responsibilities before heading into the South and Midwest regions of the US. *************************************

Language Arts The children will complete and present the Andrew Clements literature projects before moving on to StoryWorks articles and informational essays involving extreme weather. We will soon work with Greek myths and folklore from other countries. Be on the lookout for information on a small folklore/fables project for home and school! Writing
We will complete the extended endings of our narratives and pen pal letters before moving onto informative writing.
Math Thursday this week will entail long multiplication review and open responses. Long Division! Yes, it is on to traditional long division. We will soon begin Unit 6 with mult/div number stories. EVERYDAY MATH FAMILY LETTERS can be found on-line this year! As in past years, they contain unit vocabulary, activities, and selected homework answers.
