22 years since it opened, Baan Rim Pa has won more fne
dining awards than any other. In its clifside teak house,
impeccably prepared Royal Thai Cuisine is just part of a fne
dining experience.
Panoramic views over Patong Bay are complemented
by surf crashing onto the rocky beach, mingling with Tommy
Doyles magical jazz, blues and Broadway standards wafting
from the piano bar. Then theres the cellar with its 300 bottles
of the fnest wines from all corners of the globe, winner of
Wine Spectators Award of Excellence every year since 2002.
Baan Rim Pas private dining room, comfortably seats 30 for
dinner or 50 for cocktail parties. Whether its a romantic dinner
for two, hosting visitors or a special party, its no surprise that
they call Baan Rim Pa simply the fnest in the Kingdom.
Next door, Joes Downstairs is a diferent world. Crisp
white dcor, long terrazzo bar and outdoor dining decks just
feet away from the ocean are part of what make Joes unique.
Award-winning Chef Aaron Hoopers distinctive menu
combines New World cuisine with Asian and Western style
tapas. Enjoy tapas as a snack, a meal or a prelude to your la
carte dinner, which could include Alaskan Crab, Live Maine
Lobster or the fnest imported steaks all, as youd expect,
accompanied by your choice from Joes Wine Spectator
Award-winning cellar. A favourite haunt of celebrities and
the island choice for weddings and birthday parties with
a touch of class Joes is unbeatable, whether for a light
lunch, sunset cocktails or a fne dinner.
17 years and many awards on, Da Maurizio Bar Ristorante
(next door to Joes) continues to ofer discerning diners the
fnest contemporary Italian cuisine. Almost on the rocks, this is
one of the most stunning settings on Phuket its spectacular
backdrop a favourite for wedding parties up to 100.
Chef/owner Maurizio Laureri, known for his wine dinners
with their stimulating menus, changes the restaurant menu
every month. Choose live local fsh, crab, lobster and other
shell fsh, homemade pastas, exotic salads and imported
delicacies such as black and white truf e. And, of course, the
Wine Spectator Award-winning cellar.
Three-in-one and all winners!
The discovery of a new, outstanding venue to savour exquisite
traditional Thai cuisine and admire the history and culture of
Phuket in a setting of unsurpassed ambiance is not-to-be-
missed. Top it of with the fact that the chef responsible for
the food and owner of the restaurant is none other than Chef
Nooror Somany Stepp, founder of the Blue Elephant group,
and your table is set for a fne gourmet evening.
The newly-opened Blue Elephant Governor Mansion
Phuket Cooking School & Restaurant is the 13th restaurant
in the Blue Elephant Group. Set In a landmark elegant
Sino-Portuguese mansion, built in 1903, that was once the
Governor of Phukets home, a meal ofers not only dishes
created by a HAPA (Hospitality Asia Platinum Awards 2008-
2010) for One of the Most Creative Chefs in Asia winner, but
an insight into the architecture and dcor of the times.
The heart of a fne dining experience is elaborate dishes
elegantly displayed and subtly, exquisitely spiced. The Royal
Thai Banquet includes an array of starters, soups, main courses
and desserts, which range in degrees of spiciness and represent
an innovative approach to Thai cooking with a spectrum of
recipes from the past and present with a look to the future.
Starters include Chor Muang, a steamed fower shaped
dumpling, Doi Kham Salad, purple eggplant salad with grilled
scallops, Labb Salmon, a salmon tartar and Black Chicken Crispy
Spring Rolls. Enticing soups include a choice of Tom Kha Kai
Black Chicken, a soup of coconut milk and galangal and Tom
Klong Wild Red Sea Bass, a spicy and sour soup.
Main courses, a variety of seafood and meats, are
tantalizing. Noorors Massaman Lamb, a coconut milk curry
with potatoes, peanuts and cashew nuts, is described in a
19th century poem by King Rama II. Then theres Duck with
Tamarind Sauce, Black Chicken Green Curry, Phad Sator Koong,
prawns with parkia in shrimp paste and Bamboo Fish, Parrot
fsh cooked in a bamboo case.
Exceptional. Professional. Outstanding hospitality. Top-
notch service. These elements, brought together in historic
surroundings, ensure the Blue Elephant is a not-to-be-
missed dining experience on any discerning diners list.

Oysters, foie gras, steak, french fries and mayonnaise, a
Belgian blond and... chocolate beer? Superbly presented
and well prepared food, plus exotic beverages, make for an
exceptional dining experience. Even more so in a chic yet
casual setting.
The Brasserie Wine Grill and Oyster Bar, one of Phuket
Citys newer venues, blends elegant dcor and soft lighting
to create a warm and relaxing ambience. The Brasserie
has four main areas an oyster bar, a dining area of white
tablecloths and framed prints depicting Belgian and
French scenes, the half circle-shaped bar with its 31 Belgian
beers and other beverages, and an informal space with
comfortable couches, armchairs and low tables to dine and
enjoy reading materials.
Alain, the owner/chef of this Belgian brasserie suggested
an array of dishes. Pacifc oysters and Warm tomato soup with
a vegetable top (served in a shot glass) were a superb way to
begin, while River prawns cooked in a peppery paste and Foie
gras with an apple topping were pure delight.
Chef Alains excellence and passion for his craft was
further displayed in the fsh and meat courses. The moist
fsh, served in foil, was frst grilled and then steamed with
wine and spices, bringing out the ich favours. Pan-fried in
butter, the steak was cooked to medium rare perfection and
served with french fries and homemade mayonnaise.
Decadent desserts captivate the sweet tooth in all of us.
The Brasseries Chocolate mousse and Crme caramel did not
dissapoint.
Good food must be complemented by good beverages
and must-haves. Lefe draught (Belgian) beer followed by a
very drinkable French red house wine ftted the bill perfectly.
And after? Indulge yourself at the bar and see if you dare to
try an exotic beer chocolate, peach, cherry, raspberry...
Outstanding food and drink go hand and hand with a
glorious setting and atmosphere. The Brasserie Wine Grill
and Oyster Bar is a welcome and very diferent addition
to Phukets ever-growing variety of dining choices. Bon
Appetit!

Combine that with fne wines from around the world
and a stunning location dining al fresco with views of the

The recently opened Regent Phuket Cape Panwa boasts
an exquisite setting at which to savour such an occasion.

Beef has been farm raised and grass or grain fed, the

breads and sweets are all made in house.
Chef Justin renowned for his passion in all aspects of
cooking (and indeed his passion in explaining it!) served
an unparalleled array of appetizers, main courses and

Mama Mia! Conceptualisations and ingenuity in Italian
cuisine come to Nai Harn! Relish an authentic style of a
diverse array of favourites and new combinations served in
a stylish yet cozy ambiance, or savour pizzas in a separate
casual seating area by a wood-fred oven.
An evening meal must kick of with an aperitif! And so
we did, while soaking up the surroundings of the Da Vinci
restaurant and bar. Open air, but with enough cover for when
the rains come (and with an air-conditioned dining room
too), Da Vinci is tasteful, beautifully designed and welcoming.
The childrens play area ofers parents the opportunity to relax
with a fne meal, while keeping their kids in sight.
Tantalizing temptations come from the kitchen with
fresh ingredients as signature items in every dish. Our frst
adventure was the antipasti of Bruschetta, grilled sliced
bread with chopped tomato, garlic and olives.
Refreshing and the perfect choice to get us started, it was
followed by the primi piatti course of a trio of pastas: Lasagne
Al Forno (homemade lasagne in layers with beef and tomato
sauce), Spaghetti Gamberi Zucchine Vodka (spaghetti with
prawns, zucchini and vodka) and Spaghetti Neri Pomodorini
Calamari e Gamberi (black spaghetti with tomato, squid and
prawn). Unique tastes and texture combinations, underlining
the quality of the ingredients.
Good wine is, of course, essential to a fne meal. The
Palazzo Della Torre Veronese Indicazione Geografca Tipica
2004, Allegrini was the perfect red to complement the frst
two courses and continued to match the secondi piatti
and pizze courses, Scaloppine Al Vino Bianco Con Patate
(tender, perfectly cooked fllets of pork in white wine, served
with potatoes). Pizza is a must-have in a traditional Italian
restaurant, and Al Proscuitto Crudo (tomato, Mozzarella
cheese and Parma ham) is one not to be missed!
Semifreddo All Arancio and Semifreddo All Amaretto (home
made orange and amaretto sherberts) were the indulging
cap to the meal.
For superlative Italian cuisine with the freshest of
ingredients, be sure to take the Da Vinci voyage of discovery.

Two Chefs
International & Thai
Kata: 0 7628 4155
Yes I know, Im in Thailand, but tonight I fancied Greek.
Perhaps it was watching Zorba on TV earlier... Anyway,
I wanted Greek and I was walking through Kata when Two
Chefs came into view. I checked the menu; it was vast,
covering Italian, Mexican, Aussie steaks, Greek, Thai and
more. And the huge beer and cocktail list... Belgian brews...
I chose Tzatziki with Garlic Bread followed by Greek Beef
Tenderloin Skewer with more tzatziki, tasty feta cheese salad
and baked potato. My drinking pal chose Toast Skagen
with prawns, dill, chili and mayonnaise. He followed with
Wooden Planksteak grilled pork tenderloin, a surround
of mashed potatoes, sauce barnaise, bacon and red wine
sauce served on yes a wooden plank. Everything was
simply superb!
While ordering, we met one of Two Chefs partners,
Henrik, who explained the thinking behind the Two Chefs
Group. They have Bar & Grill restaurants in Kata, Kata Centre
and Karon, and a new restaurant opening on 1st Dec in
Icon Park, just south of Kamala, this one with a Sky Terrace
for night owls. They all have similar menus; some have live
bands and some single musicians - all Filipino. Not enough?
Well then, check out their local bistros in Kata-Karon, one
next to their bakery and birthday cake outlet.
Back at Kata Centre, we discovered a discreet 2nd foor
dining area great for couples dining, but would work
well for parties too. Talking of parties, Henrik told us, Two
Chefs outside catering is up and running, ofering beachside
freworks as one novel feature. These Two Chefs are really
going places...
The smiling staf took great care of us as if they really
loved working here. Fun, enthusiasm and ef ciency were
the keynotes but neither fast delivery nor presentation
were sacrifced. And heres a real bonus: they operate an all-
day-all-night Happy Hour! The Chang beer is cold and and
the Sangria is... well... exquisitely Spanish.
Two Chefs have a winning formula. Ive got to go back to
do their beer selection justice, so Id better arrange a taxi

Cefal
Italian
Tel: 0 7662 1709, 08 1820 6923
Dine on Italian food right on the beach! Savour authentic
regional dishes while sitting alfresco on the terrace with a
view to the ocean or opt for the classic Italian atmosphere
of the indoor dining area if fresh sea air is not your scene or
the if weather has decided to be unco-operative.
Tucked away on Surin Beach, Cefal ofers not only a
spectacular setting to enjoy a seaside meal, but also superb
Italian fare with an extensive wine list to match. Owner
and Chef Duilio and his team have a strong reputation
for preparing delicious dishes using only the freshest and
highest quality ingredients served of course with utmost
care and attention to detail.
Two starters that are a must try are the Crostino al
Prosciutto di Parma or sliced bread with Parma ham and
mozzarella cheese and the Tartare di tonno or fresh tuna
tartare with toasted bread. The salty taste of the dry-cured
pork and the milky taste of the frm cheese ball complement
each other perfectly. Delightful in the way it was presented,
the tuna was moist and succulent.
On our visit to Cefals, Duilios main course
recommendations were outstanding. He suggested
Lasagne al forno (al rag) or homemade lasagna with meat
and Ravioli polpa di granchio e gamberetti or ravioli flled with
crab and shrimps served with lobster bisque. The lasagna
was meaty and moist and spiced perfectly just like mama
used to make and the seafood ravioli was heaven for the
taste-buds and a treat for the eyes.
Naturally, an Italian dinner cannot exist without the
perfect wine and here Cefals notches up a healthy score
with its extensive wine list, featuring (of course) a solid
selection of Italian wines.
Dessert was a creamy Panna Cotta topped with cherries
and a spongy Tiramisu, traditional Italian desserts and
absolutely delicious.
Cefals ofers a casual dining experience with superb
food with an unbeatable beach location. Truly magnifco!

Terrazzo
Italian
Tel: 0 7637 0200
Part of Patong Holiday Inn, Terrazzo is a welcoming Italian
restaurant with open seating on the beach road, so easy to fnd.
Covered seating is also available, should bad weather catch
you out. Since he moved to Patong, Assistant Hotel Manager
Morgan has lifted Terrazzo into a Top 10 position, helped by
his Italian trained chef and restaurant manager Tony.
The restaurant staf are happy, friendly and attentive; the
veranda and beach location attracts beach dwellers, people
watchers, passing couples and families. No reservations
necessary, this is caf style. Around 6-7pm, as the Patong
sunset fades, Terrazzo passes over to subtle, ambient lighting,
quietly romantic yet ample for menu viewing, keeping the
children alert and individuals hungry for a Pizza.
As we sipped our Campari Sodas in the Cocktail Bar,
we checked out the classic Italian menu (which includes a
Thai selection served until 6pm). My companion chose to
start with Caesar Salad (with anchovies) and couldnt resist
the Chorizo Risotto main. I decided on Antipasto followed by
Pasta Linguine Fruiti di Mare, inspired by the ocean location.
Warm crusty bread with pesto and olive oil dips awaited
us at our table. The slender Parma Ham, Salami Milanese and
Garlic Chorizo came with grilled vegetables and crispy bread
sticks. The blend of favours danced around my taste buds
an array of olives and pickles added to the experience while
the Caesar Salad was consumed with mmmm sounds and
enthusiastic descriptions from my companion.
My delicate herb white wine pasta sauce took nothing
from the fresh seafood favours. The squid was perfect, the
wild prawns full of favour and the scallops! Their soft feshy
texture and mildly sweet taste complemented the sauce
perfectly. The meal was delectable. My friends risotto was
equally enjoyed and more than lived up to his expectations
his plate was empty!
Ahhaa, yes the wine, we chose the lean, crisp Chilean
Chardonnay and were not disappointed.
Good value, excellent service and a prime beachfront
location all made for a superb, yet relaxed, evening. Ill be
back soon. I hear the Chicken Parmigiana is exquisite.

increasing bustle of Kata Beachs main tourist zone and it
has parking! And, of course, the famous west coast sunsets.
