GENERAL:
CALCIUM CHANNEL BLOCKER
INDICATION
Treatment of Hypertension
CONTRAINDICATION
Allergy or hypersensitivity to this drug. Patients with heart failure
SIDE EFFECTS
Headache, fatigue, dizziness, lightheadedness, nausea, edema, dyspnea
NURSING CONSIDERATION
Monitor patient carefully. Monitor blood pressure frequently during initiation of therapy. Because drug-induced vasodilation has a gradual onset, acute hypotension is rare. Notify physician if signs of heart failure occur, such as swelling of hands and feet and shortness of breath. Caution patient to continue taking drug, even when he feels better.
SPECIFIC: It dilates coronary arteries & atreoles, decrease blood pressure & myocardial oxygen demand. It also inhibits calcium ion influx across cardiac and smooth muscle cells.

CLASSIFICATION
GENERAL: BETA BLOCKER SPECIFIC: It decreases cardiac output, peripheral resistance, & cardiac oxygen consumption.
INDICATION
Treatment of Hypertension, early intervention for acute MI and angina pectoris.
CONTRAINDICATION
Contraindicated in patients hypersensitive to drug
SIDE EFFECTS
Dizziness, hypotension, bradycardia, nausea
NURSING CONSIDERATION
Always check patients apical pulse rate before giving drug. Withdraw the drug if it is 60 beats per minute and call physician immediately. Monitor BP frequently. Instruct patient to take drug exactly as prescribed and with meals.

Dizziness, headache, abdominal pain, constipation, flatulence, nausea vomiting, back pain.
NURSING CONSIDERATION
Instruct patient to take the drug 30 minutes before meals. Caution patient to avoid hazardous activities if he gets dizzy. Monitor patient frequently.
SPECIFIC: It inhibits proton pum activity by binding to hydrogenpotassium to suppress gastric and secretion

INDICATION
For patients with iron deficiency.

NURSING CONSIDERATION
Contraindicated Nausea, epigastric on patients with peptic ulceration and in those receiving repeated blood transfusions. pain, vomiting, constipation, black tarry stolols, anorexia
Intsruct patient that GI upset may be related to dose Monitor hemoglobin level and hematocrit during therapy. Tell apitnet to take the drug with juice or water but not with milk or antacids. Advise patient to report constipation and change in stool color or consistency.
