Hello and welcome back to all of the 8th graders returning to

What We’re Going To Learn

For this first quarter we will be focusing on our
introduction to geography as well as looking more
closely at the study of Minnesota. We will be
discussing such concepts as latitude, longitude,
different types of maps, and how to analyze data to
better understand the people of a region.

Technology
This year we are going to have the opportunity to work with a few
new computer applications that will allow your child to work
online with his/her teachers and classmates.
One such program is PB Works which allows students to
collaborate on many projects. Students will be adding material, editing their writings, and
commenting other students’ work throughout the year. To access this page, parents can use the

Another application we are going to be using is Google Docs. This program will allow students to
write papers online either on their own or with their classmates. We will also be able to turn papers in
online, cutting down on paper use and ink while helping students by turning papers in directly from
anywhere there is internet. Students will be able to access their accounts from the South Jr. High page
under Student Tools.

Student Expectations
While we believe that most students understand proper
online behavior (netiquette), we would like to make
sure that all families understand that any misuse of the
technology or online bullying/harassment will be taken
very seriously. If there are any problems students will
lose their access and if severe enough we will need to
involve both you and the office immediately. Thank
