Postgraduate Funding Opportunities in French at Queens University Belfast

French Studies at Queens University Belfast is pleased to announce the following AHRC funding opportunities for doctoral- and Masters-level studentships.

Queens University is part of the Northern Bridge Doctoral Training Partnership (NBDTP) along with Newcastle and Durham Universities (www.northernbridge.ac.uk). The Northern Bridge Consortium plans to award more than 250 fully-funded doctoral studentships, as well as a small number of master's studentships, over the 5-year period from 2014 entry. Successful applicants will work with leading subject specialists and will also have access to placement opportunities either abroad or with our non-HEI partners. These include: the BALTIC Centre for Contemporary Art; BBC Northern Ireland; Belfast City Council; the Department of Culture, Arts and Leisure NI (includes National Museums of NI; Libraries NI, Public Record Office of NI); Durham Cathedral; the National Media Museum (member of the Science Museum Group); New Writing North; Newcastle City Council; Sage Gateshead; Seven Stories: National Centre for Childrens Books; The Bowes Museum; Tyne & Wear Archives & Museums; and the Wordsworth Trust. For 2014 entry, NBDTP is offering 50 PhD studentships and 3-4 Masters Studentships to fund students carrying out research or MA study in the Arts and Humanities. Applications for Masters study are particularly encouraged in the area of Modern Languages. Research strengths in French Studies at Queens span two main areas: 1. Modern French and francophone literary and cultural studies (19th-21st c.), with particular specialisms in: Gender studies Medical Humanities Travel and migration studies Francophone Chinese art and literature Popular culture Postcolonial Studies, in particular Caribbean literature Visual cultures: art history, film, photography, sculpture, urban art

Linguistics, with particular expertise in: Language Variation and Change Temporality Structure of oral French Sociolinguistics of French
