SYNOPSIS Circuit Analysis provides exposure and knowledge to the student in solving Alternating Current (AC) electrical network circuit problems. The emphasis of this course is on using basic circuit theorems, Laplace Transforms and Fourier Series.

RATIONALE FOR THE INCLUSION OF THE COURSE/MODULE IN THE PROGRAMMED.

This course is a part of the Body of Knowledge (BOK) component in Electrical and Electronics field. BOK has been developed based on the mapping requirements of professional bodies, institutions of higher learning in the country and abroad and also referred to the history and theory in this field. COURSE LEARNING OUTCOMES (CLO) Upon completion of this course, students should be able to:

CLO apply basic circuit theorems in solving alternating current (AC) in electrical circuit problems. LAPLACE TRANSFORM Laplace transform of an expression by using the integral definition, Laplace transform of a function by using table, linearity property, first shift theorem, Laplace Transform of derivatives, Laplace Transform of integrals. Inverse Laplace transforms of some standard functions, inverse Laplace transforms using partial fractions, inverse Laplace transforms by completing the square. Laplace transform of first and second derivatives, Laplace transform to solve differential equations. Laplace transform in RLC circuit analysis.

FOURIER SERIES Periodic and non-periodic function, Trigonometric Fourier Series, Fourier sine and cosine series for odd and even functions, Fourier half range sine and cosine series, Exponential Form of the Fourier Series, Exponential Form of the Fourier series in electrical circuits to obtain the line spectrum.

ASSESSMENT The course assessment is carried out in two sections: i. Continuous Assessment (CA) - 50% Coursework is continuous assessment that measure knowledge, technical skills and soft skill. ii. Final Examination (FE) - 50%

Final examination is carried out at the end of the semester. The percentage ratio of FE to CA should follow the guideline stated in the Arahan- Arahan Peperiksaan dan Kaedah Penilaian which is approved by the Lembaga Peperiksaan dan Penganugerahan Sijil/Diploma Politeknik.

ATTENDANCE The student should adhere to the rules of attendance as stated in the ARAHAN-ARAHAN PEPERIKSAAN DAN KAEDAH PENILAIAN; Bhgn 3 : Peraturan Peperiksaan Dan Penilaian. Student must attend not less than 80 % of contact hours as required for the course.
