MohallaJamath & Political Awareness Conference Magnificent Tirchy Rally Reverbrates IUML History
The mega events in Tiruchy on Dec.28,2013 the Mohalla Jamaath Integration and political Awareness Conference and the Crescent Resurgence Rally organized by the TN IUML, coincided with the first Muslim League Conference in the post Independent India was held in the Tirchy district exactly on the same date and month in the year 1947. Professor K.M.Khader Mohideen while delivering the valedictory address proudly proclaimed that it was not Qaid-e-Milleth Mohamed Ismail Sahib, the founder of the IUML, but A.M.Youssuff of Tirchy, who first unfurled the Muslim Leagues green crescent flag in the post Independent India in Tirchy district on Dec, 28,1947. Thousands of Leaguers waving green crescent flags, carrying banners, chanting Allahu Akbar, Muslim League Zindabad, descended on UlavarChandai ground. It was a disciplined and orderly rally, impressed every one with its grandeur. The playing of dhaps, bands, exhibition of martial

arts with iron rolls , wooden sticks and fire balls and the surge of huge Muslim League Cadres proved that the IUML in the state was reanimated . An eye witness estimate placed the crowd at over fifty thousands and the entire route of the rally was packed with cheering Muslims and local crowds. The rally , the conference and the presence of distinguished Muslim dignitaries from the various walks of life proved beyond all reasonable doubts that the IUML was the sole representative political body of the Indian Muslims .It was an exclusive IUML event with none from other political parties were invited to participate. It was really a mega event that would certainly cause to raise the eyebrows of the IUML adversaries in the state.

The conference was presided over by the National General Secretary and theTN state president K.M.KhaderMohideen. K.A.M.Abubacker state general secretary rendered welcome address. Party National

Regime change wont affect India-Pakistan ties: Bashir

Declining to comment on the prospect of the BJPs NarendraModi becoming the prime minister, outgoing Pakistan High Commissioner Salman Bashir Monday said any regime change in India would not affect bilateral ties. We respect every leader, every political party, and it being Indias internal matter, we dont have an opinion on that. The common denominator is the people of India. Therefore our reach out is to the people, Bashir told media persons here when asked to give his views about Modi, the BharatiyaJanata Partys prime ministerial candidate. It is not proper for me or for anybody from Pakistan to be here in India and comment either on Indian political process or any situation in any other country, he added. With the LokSabha elections due in India early next year, Bashir said any change in the regime will not come in the way of the mutual ties which both the countries have been working to improve. I dont think that regime change really matters. The relation between states are state relations. They are not personal or party specific. It is the considered policy of Pakistan to forge friendly and cooperative relations with India. So your question remains relevant in terms of reciprocation and it is my sense that people of India are desirous to see better relations with Pakistan as in their own interest. Thats my sense, he said. Bashir asserted that Pakistan was a firm believer in democracy. In a democracy, whatever democracy delivers is something that is good and we firmly believe in that. We have had an election and democracy has delivered outstanding results in terms of stable government in Pakistan, he said. He also rubbished allegations that Pakistan promoted terrorism and claimed: We are at forefront in defeating terrorism.

From displacement to disappearance

December 26, 2013, a large group of visitors entered the Loi relief camp in Muzaffarnagar district, Uttar Pradesh. Loi camp a festering sea of displaced and despairing humanity, with tattered tents and slush as far as the eye could see, where children stare without even a hint of the smile that can sometimes hide deep in childrens eyes. The occasion was that a member of the National Commission for Minorities (NCM) had come to see the situation at first hand. Activists from the Joint Citizens Initiative (JCI), a collective of non-governmental organisations (NGO) working in these camps for over two months were also present. The full array of local administration was in attendance the additional district magistrate, the chief medical officer (CMO), the tehsildar and others. A meeting of survivors took place and a cacophony rent the air. We are being threatened and pressured by the administration to clear off government land. Do not remove us from here. We have no place to go. Even those whose names have appeared on lists entitling them to compensation said this. They said the promise of money in a bank is not the instant equivalent of a home, with a roof, livelihood or security. Where should we go today in this freezing cold? Compensation on paper doesnt mean we move on to a street with small children overnight. Give us time to rebuild our lives, our communities. And why just fling compensation at us? Arrest the guilty. Give us security, they said. Survivors who have not been deemed fit for any compensation were even more desperate to stay. Assurances and upheaval Administrative assurances were given that no one would be forced to leave. Official promises were made of milk, medicines and firewood in the days to come. The CMO admitted that in the first two months of the camps existence, the administration had not distributed any milk. But since news of children dying went viral, one milk powder tin has been given to each family, he told us, clearly proud of this largesse. One left the camp that evening somewhat reassured that the visit had bought

misery, of state failure, and, in election season, an open invitation to political opponents. Camp after camp has been forced to disappear. But where are the internally displaced persons? Look closer where the camps once stood and you will find them. In small shanty settlements, 10 tents here, another 10 tents half a kilometre down the road, 20-odd tents along the talab in Loi village. It is the same story in Shahpur. The camp has disappeared. Its people are now part of Indias great slum story, their tent clusters dotting the countryside of Shahpur village, here today, gone tomorrow; their permanent addresses unknown. Remember, these nine are the villages where most of the main criminal cases have been filedand the Rs.5 lakh is beginning to seem sinister, like hush money. Is this the message take the money and disappear? The result is that no witnesses will be found, and criminal justice will not be secured. Is that whats really going on? In Kutba, one of the nine villages designated for displacement compensation, where eight people were killed, only five arrests have been made. Warrants are out for another 36 people. Over three months after the violence, the police appear unable to find them. Even after counting the dead, there are so many more disappearances in Muzaffarnagar the relief camps, riot survivors and the accused. And this is just the beginning of election season in Indias most populous State. (Postscript: At the time of writing, December 30, 2013, the Loi relief camp had been emptied of all but a handful of tents. The effect of the JCB excavator could be seen in the way scared survivors began pulling down their rickety tents and creeping away in the days following December 26, in search of other innocuous hiding places. A police picket has appeared at the camp entrance to make sure they do not return. This has been their second forced displacement.) Courtesy : The Hindu, Chennai - 2.1.2014

Painful Path to Justice: Travails of ZakiaJafri

By Ram Puniyani The metropolitan court on 26th December 2013 exonerated NarendraModi and 59 others for their complicity in the Gujarat carnage. Fully accepting the report of SIT (Special Investigation Team) the court endorsed the view of Modi and Government about their role in the carnage. The Court rejected a petition seeking the prosecution of Chief Minister NarendraModi in the 2002 communal riots case. There were varied reactions to this. MrsJafri broke down but vowed to continue her legal battle. She has alleged that Mr. Modi colluded with senior ministers, bureaucrats and the police to facilitate the communal violence that tore through the state. NarendraModi stated that he felt relief for facing the trial by fire and also wrote a blog saying that he was shaken to the core by the violence, he felt Grief, Sadness, Misery, Pain, Anguish, Agony. Responding to the poor state of the justice delivery system in Gujarat social activist Mallika Sarabhai said today that it was silly to have expected anything else but a clean chit for Mr. Modi from a Gujarat court. As per her everyone in Gujarat was terrified of Modis vengeance. Just to recapitulate, the massive Gujarat violence which took the communal violence to harrowing depths, the open collusion of state and the perpetrators of violence stood nakedly for all to see. This was also the violence where the social activists took up the case of justice in a determined way leading to shifting of crucial cases outside of Gujarat as in the atmosphere of intimidation prevailing in Gujarat; the process of deliverance of justice is difficult. The SIT (Special Investigation Team) was formed under the Supervision of the Supreme Court, but those in the SIT could not rise up to the task of the objectivity in the process of interpretation of investigation. Interestingly as SIT gave clean chit to Modi, the Amicus Curiae RajuRamcnadran appointed by Supreme Court stated that there is enough evidence in the report to prosecute Modi under different clauses. Immediately after the judgment was out the BJP activists celebrated by bursting crackers and Modi tweeted, SatyamevJayate, (Truth wins). Interestingly there seem to be different truths depending on which side of the divide you are. While Modis truth seems to have won for the time being the truth of ZakiaJafri and thousands of victims of Gujarat is struggling to get justice. The same events are seen in different light for different people. In the aftermath of the verdict the BJP spokesmen have been aggressively defending the verdict. The press release by TeestaSetalvad (Citizens for Justice and Peace), which is helping ZakiJafri, gave a detailed account of the petition. This petition shows that the team of lawyers has done their job well. The petition points out the that state had deliberately ignored the signal which indicated the build up towards disaster.. They produced concrete evidence, fax messages, telephone call records amongst others to show that state administration was in the know of the aggressive behavior of the returning KarSevaks who were giving provocative slogans. The rowdy nature of the KarSevaks was documented. The words and deeds of the Chief Minister, who now seems to be projecting as if it was a period of pain, is contrary to his actions during that time. That time he openly alleged the role of International terrorism, Pakistans ISI and local Muslims in the burning of the train. He created a provocative atmosphere by involving the VHP in the episode. The post mortem of the bodies was conducted in the open in the presence of RSS-VHP workers. Modi himself instigated the communal forces by giving statements like, every action has a reaction. This statement is being denied now for political reasons. In the meeting attended by top officials he did ask the administration to sit back as the reaction of Hindus will take place. HarenPandya who testified to the Concerned Citizens Tribunal and told this to the tribunal was murdered later. Other official Sanjeev Bhatt has also testified the same. The military was called in late and not deployed properly; many severely hit areas were left out. During this time Modi went on to say the they are being taught a lesson. Modis body language during that time did not show any signs of pain or anguish. It was more of a triumphant man riding on the wave of success. Sting operations have also shown the role of communal forces and collusion of state machinery. Dr. Maya Kodnani, Modis cabinet colleague and BabuBajrangi of VHP are currently serving life term for case of Maya Kodnani. Same state saw the spate of fake encounters, the ones like that of IshratJahan. Many top police officers of the state are behind the bars for their collusion with the divisive agenda, Vanjara and company. Sarabhai correctly depicts the picture of the justice in Gujarat. So it is a battle between two sets of truths, the truth of Modi on one side and that of ZakiaJafri on the other. Modi benefitted from the whole tragedy as at first, the tottering BJP hold became stronger in Gujarat. Then through a carefully orchestrated propaganda of development he came to position himself as the prime ministerial candidate of BJP. ZakiaJafri and the score of victims who lost their near and dear ones, lost their home and hearth and have to live in the dark tunnels of the haunting memories of what happened to them during the violence. Yes truth of the ones wronged; the one who are victims should prevail. This is the beginning of the battle for justice and the resolve of MrsJafri and the social activists supporting her is not just for her personal grief but also for the cause of justice all over the state. Surely one hopes their truth will prevail in due course.

their crime. During the process of relief also, the state shirked from its responsibility by saying that the refugee camps are children manufacturing centers. The Godhra train burning was called an act of terrorism and the carnage was treated as mere violence. The violence victims are now living in abysmal conditions in the ghettoes like Juhapura. With the help of propaganda all these truths of Gujarat are being pushed under the carpet. Any criticism of the state leadership and policy is being projected as the insult of the people of Gujarat. The majority community has been made to feel insecure through the propaganda unleashed by the communal forces. Many other culprits got clean chit at lower courts but law did catch up with them in due course as in the

THE TIMES OF LEAGUE

Muslims living in Punjab are backward educationally, socially and economically, no doubt Punjabi Muslims are developing but the pace of development is very slow, most of Muslims living in the state belong to middle class and lower middle class families, they earn for their lively hood by doing labor jobs in factories, farms and other places, they earn very little and it is very difficult for them to survive in todays scientific and technical world, they can not afford educational expenses of their children so their children are compelled to be less literate/ illiterate, since independence of India in 1947 these people are facing the same problem, there are a few Muslim families who are enable to provide best education to their children but majority of Muslim families lack economical resources to provide best education to their children, majority of Muslims is less literate so they do not know the facilities provided to Muslim Minority by central and state governments and the way to get all the educational, social and economical facilities provided to them, there must be a minority facilitation center to educate Muslim Minority about the educational, social and economical schemes provided to them in the State especially in Malerkotla (A City with Majority of Muslims in Punjab), minority facilitation center in the area will help Muslims in knowing all the educational, social and economical schemes provided to them in the State and it is responsibility of the state and center governments to provide all the facilities available for Muslims in Punjab, educational, social and economical development of Muslims in the state and country is moral responsibility of center and state governments especially ministry of minority in center and state governments, Education is the main tool of overall development of Muslim minority in the state. Now we talk about Malerkotla (A City with Majority of Muslims in Punjab), this town plays an important role in the politics of district Sangrur, Punjab, quality of the town is that all the communities like Hindu, Sikhs, Muslims live

Who is responsible for backwardness of Punjabi Muslims?

together happily, the population of Muslims in this town is around 65 to 75% of total, there were many Muslim MLAs, Politicians and ministers from this town since independence of India but proper educational, social and economical growth of Muslims could not happen till date, there is not any Medical/ polytechnic and vocational college in the town, growth of industry is very slow, economically Muslim minority people are weak, this problem is not limited up to Malerkotla only but all the Muslims across the state face the same problems. Muslims of Punjab could not develop due to lack of education and awareness, now Punjabi Muslims should think of the reason that why they could not develop? and why the pace of development of Muslim minority is so slow even after 66 years of Indian Independence? Why the voice and demands of Punjabi Muslims could not reach up to state and center governments? If Punjabi Muslims succeed to get the answer of this question they will definitely find a better way to improve and develop their educational/ social and economical standards. Punjabi Muslims should think of their choice of Political parties and political leaders from Independence of India till date, if they supported any political party at a specific time what advantages the party and its leaders have given to the Muslims educationally, socially, politically and economically, if any political party or its Muslim leader has contributed in educational, social and economical growth of Muslims in Punjab especially in Malerkotla, he/she and his/her political party has right to be elected by Muslims of Punjab/Malerkotla again but if there is not any such growth should the Muslims of Punjab elect such Muslim leader and his/her political party? Punjabi Muslims should search the answer of this question the growth will automatically happen. If we Punjabi Muslims are supporting any political party and electing Muslim representatives of that party without considering its contribution in educational, social and economical growth of the Punjabi Muslims in the past, we our self are Guilty because we are unable to support a political party or its Muslim representative that can be the voice of Punjabi Muslims in the state assembly, can defend the rights of Punjabi Muslims and can bring educational, social, economical and political growth to the Punjabi Muslims, we Punjabi Muslims need a political party and Muslim leader who can support us and can stand with us during our thick and thin. There is a common saying that God Helps that Who Help Themselves now Punjabi Muslims should think that if we are helping our self by electing favorable political party and its Muslim representative for our educational, social, political and economical growth. This is moral responsibility

of Punjabi Muslims to choose a political party and its representative that is in favor of Muslims and that can provide free education for Muslim children, vocational/medical education, for the youngsters, reservation of Punjabi Muslims in government and semi government jobs and jobs/ employment for unemployed Muslim youth, now think carefully and elect carefully because now this is not a meter limited to us but this is the matter of coming generations of Punjabi Muslims.
