Work History University of Central Florida (2010-Present) Research Assistant Joint group-individual detection and tracking 2013-Present The Deformable Parts Model (DPM) for human detection extended for groups of people walking together. Revised model incorporates knowledge of natural human group formations taken from sociology literature and also accounts for self-occlusion within groups. Dense crowd counting 2013-Present Crowd counting performed in surveillance of dense crowds. An initial estimate is obtained using a regressor. Initial estimates are rened using the knowledge that spatial and temporal proximity implies similar counts. This is done via a novel MRF framework employing a densely connected hexagonal grid that includes hyper-edges between frames to account for motion between small hexagonal patches. Estimation of team formations in sports videos 2012-2013 Groups of actors modeled as graphs and team formations identied using temporal analysis of visible sub-graphs in any given frame. A dataset of temporally segmented videos of soccer matches from television broadcast footage was collected. Identication of team formations allows track linking across breaks in video clips such as those due to commercials or view-point changes. Dynamic group strategy analysis 2011-2012 Football play classication used as a test scenario for a general group activity recognition framework. Group activity representation is built upon simple optical ow and is robust to camera shake or noise. Sub-activities modeled as motion patterns and the entire activity represented as a complete graph. An unknown play is classied using a nearest neighbor based soft probabilistic graph matching. Motion patterns in surveillance 2010-2011 Performed a GMM based modeling of trac patterns learned from simple optical ow. Classication of unknown pattern performed via a novel warping of patterns onto existing class prototypes and GMM divergence score comparison. Abnormal behavior detection 2010-2011 Scene models obtained using hierarchical clustering of optical ow to generate motion patterns. Detected vehicles assigned to learned patterns in the scene and deviation from learned behavior detected. Model also learns transfer of vehicles between individual patterns by determining possible linkages between patterns. Persistent tracking in aerial surveillance 2010 Performed alignment, detection and tracking of multiple moving objects on a low resolution, low frame rate UAV dataset using a number of existing methods in literature.
