it...

Welcome back to our first full week of school in the new year. We were able to brave the cold on Tuesday and by Thursday, we were certainly back in the swing of things. Here is what went on this week:

to go along with them. They turned out beautiful!!

Shared Reading
We began an authors study on Jan Brett this week. We learned so many interesting things about this great author/ illustrator of childrens literature. She travels all over the world for inspiration for her stories. We loved reading her books so much We read: The Mitten The Hat Comets Nine Lives The Three Snow Bears Goldilocks and the Three
Bears

Math
We practiced counting and adding larger numbers . Those transitional numbers, such as 29, 39, 49, etc. can get tricky for some. We also worked in our math journal solving addition word problems.

Reminders and FYI...

Your childs report card is inside an envelope in their Thursday folder. You will find two copies of their checklist in the envelope. Please sign and return 1 copy of the checklist (with the envelope) and keep one for yourself . One mans trash, is another teachers treasure!!! We are collecting old newspapers and toilet paper rolls. If you have any, we are happy to take them off your hands. Dont forget to return your childs December journal. We will celebrate the 100th day of school next Thursday, January 23. We will do many fun activities involving the number 100. Please see the flyer in your childs folder about what they may wear to school on that day. Class needs: 3 boxes of Fruit Loops (100th day activity) - THANKS!!!!!! Enjoy your long weekend!!!! ~ Kathleen
MARK YOUR CALENDAR:

We even made a class book about what you could fit in a mitten. Youd be surprised at what the kids said you can put in there!!!

Theme
We finished up learning about zebras. We created an amazing web, detailing all the many awesome things we learned about them. We discussed that one of the best ways to show others we have studied zebras is to make a zebra like the ones we studied. We brainstormed many ways we could go about creating a life-size zebra and then created a plan for its construction. We are very excited to begin work on it! We also worked in our fact books. We wrote several facts and created some wonderful illustrations
