First,whileIagreewithyouthattheIowaLegislaturehaspaidduesasabodytotheCouncilofState Governments,theNationalConferenceofCommissionersonUniformStateLaws,andtheNational ConferenceofStateLegislatures,IdisagreewithyourassertionthatIowahaspaidduestoALECasa singlebody.AccordingtothenonpartisanIowaLegislativeServicesAgency,thelasttimedueswere paidtoALECin20112012,atotalof$6,400waspaidonbehalfof64staterepresentativeswho requestedtobemembers.Therewere36HouseDemocratsand50statesenatorsforwhomdueswere notpaid. Second,nodueshavebeenpaidbytheIowaLegislaturetoALEConbehalfofanyIowalegislatorin 201314.Moreimportantly,IcanfindnoauthorizationforpaymentbyeithertheLegislativeCouncilor legislativeleaders.YetwhatyoutermyourworkingdocumentsreflectthattheIowaGeneralAssembly isanALECmemberasasinglebody. Therefore,sincetheIowaLegislaturedoesnotjoinALECasasinglebody,paysonlyforthoselegislators whoasktobeALECmembers,andhaspaidnoduesforanylegislatorsfor201314,Iwouldaskthatyou notlistIowaashavingjoinedasasinglebodyandonlylistthoselegislatorsforwhomyoureceivedues asALECmembers.Becauseall47Democraticrepresentativeshaverequestedthatduesnotbepaidon ourbehalf,pleasedonotacceptpaymentofindividualduesonourbehalfifofferedinthefuture.
