ACT Young People’s Plan 2009-14
The ACT Government has developed a draft Plan for young people that will
guide policies and programs through until 2014.
The Plan also includes an action plan and timeline that will help to make the
ACT Young People’s Plan happen.
Five key themes that have been identified as important to young people
through consultation are:
• health, wellbeing and support;
• families and communities;
• participation and access;
• transitions and pathways; and
• environment and sustainability.

Draft ACT Multicultural Strategy 2010 - 2013
The ACT Government is seeking written comment or submissions from
individuals or organisations on the second draft of the ACT Multicultural
Strategy 2010 –2013.
Following the initial round of community consultation, the draft includes an
updated structure, as well as new content.
The Strategy now includes the following six focus areas:
• languages;
• ageing and aged care;
• children and young people;
• women;
• refugees and asylum seekers; and
• traditions, heritage and religious acceptance.
Written comments on the draft Strategy are encouraged and will be valued.
The draft ACT Multicultural Strategy 2010 – 2013 is now available at

Roadside memorials in the ACT
A discussion paper has been prepared with the view to developing a formal
policy for the placement of roadside memorials in the ACT.
Territory and Municipal Services would like to invite the community to share
their thoughts and views on this very sensitive subject.
The discussion paper along with a feedback form is available from Canberra
Connect Shopfronts, ACT Public Libraries and online at www.tams.act.gov.au
(look under ‘Get Involved’).
The public comment period closes on Friday 16 October 2009.

Calwell Proposed Aged Care Facility:
Block 5 Section 790 Were Street
The Land Development Agency (LDA) is seeking feedback from nearby
residents and traders on the proposal to release for sale Block 5 Section 790
Were Street for the purposes of an aged care facility.
The LDA is dedicated to achieving new standards of innovation, excellence
and value in urban design and sustainable development. As an agency that
develops and sells land on behalf of the ACT Government, our aim is to build
better communities for the benefit of the people of Canberra.

Planning to visit Floriade on Sunday?
Then plan to include a guided tour of the Canberra International Arboretum
and Gardens.

Canberra Nara Candle Festival on today!
Enjoy the spectacle of more than 2,000 shimmering candles at the Canberra
Nara Candle Festival as we celebrate the 16th anniversary of our Sister City
Relationship with Nara, Japan.

Where: Canberra Nara Park – Lennox Gardens (behind the Hyatt Hotel)
This festival of friendship and goodwill offers plenty of free entertainment,
including Japanese musicians and performers, fun activities to entertain the
kids and a delicious range of Japanese cuisine.
Enjoy the Official Candle Ceremony from 6.30pm followed by the lighting of
more than 2,000 candles in Canberra’s Nara Park.
Parking is available in the Parliamentary Zone, with a free shuttle bus running
every 15 minutes to Nara Park. Public parking is not permitted in the Hyatt
