CHAPTER 1 INTRODUCTION

1.0

BACKGROUND OF STUDY

Recently, with fuel and food crisis looming over the world, new alternative have been discovered to overcome this problem. Based on energy resources such as nuclear, solar, wind, geothermal and wave energy, biomass energy is the one of the energy sources with highly recommended overcoming our energy resources problem because it is environmental friendly where there is ongoing research and development now was able to produce non-fossil fuel sources such as based on biofuel and biodiesel plants. A part from the management of biomass should be more important and were are here focusing on biomass management in construction industries and Malaysian government especially with the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment (NRE) should take an action to approch this issues.

PROBLEM STATEMENT Over the time, as Malaysia shaping the future to be lead in developing

countries, construction industry being the most catalyst product in making the dream. Then, the other side, it is anticipated that the volume of wood waste (biomass) will greatly increase especially in construction industries. A biomass management

program needs to be developed that is sustainable. These waste materials and wood products also could be generated during hazard mitigation, native plant restoration, forest management activities, as well as fuel reduction activities. Tokyo Decleration on Asian Biomass held in January 2006 also considering the increasing expectations from biomass and we should to take an action especially to our government to varying policies for dealing with biomass to approach an innovative techniques to overcome the problem of biomass management. Now the techniques are shown to be effective but only in working paper because this new adaptive management strategies are not fully utilised by the industries. It is happen because our communities still lack

of knowledge and awareness of the importance of management of biomass that can bring benefits to all parties.

OBJECTIVE OF STUDY

Our objective of the study in management of biomass in construction industries are following:

a) To determine the level of awareness of important of biomass among public in Malaysia. b) To develop the awareness about the biomass management among public in Malaysia. c) To introduce solutions in raising the awareness about biomass among Malaysian.

1.3

SCOPE OF STUDY

The data for had been carried out among Malaysian based on online generated question which in the survey question was distributed in Google Drive, Facebook and Twitter. In order to get feedback from and some public. Few

qualitative interview to be done in Universiti Teknologi Malaysia.
