Join the National Mining Museums team for a summer of museum learning and fun in the Colorado Rockies. The internship provides for a wide array of duties, offering an optimal learning experience for those interested in pursuing a career in the museum field. The intern will divide hours between curatorial projects and work as a Visitor Services Representative (VSR). Curatorial essential duties/responsibilities include: Process and catalog incoming and backlogged collections Perform regular inventories for exhibit and storage collections Assist curatorial team with the fabrication and installation of planned exhibits Execute proper archival and object handling, storage and care as dictated by the Museum Collections Policy Curatorial Interns will assist in projects that range from a wide variety of museum-related tasks, including collections management, exhibit design, educational programing and site interpretation. Museum staff will work with the intern to identify projects which correlate with his/her interests and career goals. As a Visitor Services Representative (VSR) the position will require the following: Greet all visitors in a warm, friendly manner Answer all visitor enquiries about the Museum, the Matchless Mine and the local area Assist and process transactions/cash-handling in Admissions and Gift Shop Complete daily opening and closing procedures (counting float, requesting change, balancing cash drawer, etc.) The Curatorial Intern will be required to work 2 days a week as VSR maintaining the admissions and gift shop desk; however, the Intern is expected to continue curatorial work when not assisting customers. The Intern will be free to solely focus on curatorial work the remaining 3 days a week. Preferred Qualifications Strong organizational and multitasking skills Excellent interpersonal and public speaking skills The ability to work unsupervised, independently and/or as part of a team Computers skills, including PastPerfect database software and word processing Knowledge of mining, geology, history and/or museum studies Pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree in mining engineering, geology, education, library sciences, history and or/ museum studies
