The document calls for workers to unite and resist austerity measures through strikes. Recent months have seen successful strikes by firefighters over pension reforms, teachers over pay and conditions, and higher and further education workers over pay. Local strikes have also defeated zero-hour contracts and increased pay. The document argues that the government and employers are now targeting unions themselves, so escalating and uniting resistance through solidarity between workers' groups is essential to build momentum for the united fightback needed to overcome attacks. It provides contact details for a group campaigning against austerity.

UNITE THE RESISTANCE
As the Tories relentlessly continue their vicious assault on working class people, striking workers are showing how we can fight back. Recent months have seen strikes by firefighters as they take on the Tories attacks on their pensions and the fire service. Weve also seen tens of thousands of teachers striking regionally, while the NUT is set to announce a national strike in March this year. Strikes of higher and further education workers in UCU, Unison, Unite and EIS over pay have been taking place. As well as strikes at a national and regional level over pay and services, weve seen a number of inspiring local strikes, such as the solid action at Hovis that defeated zero hours contracts, the various strikes by Unison members in Glasgow and the strikes on London Underground. The Tories and bosses are now attacking our unions. With the scale of the assault we face, it is essential that we escalate and unite the resistance. Our unions have the power to take on these attacks. By developing solidarity for every group of workers fighting back, we can build up the pressure and momentum within our unions for the united fightback we need to win.
