.our winter weather is fickle, but its cold out there!!! Please make sure your children are equipped for the cold weather. We try to spend time outside every day, so dress warmly! Dont forget hats, mitts, boots and snow-pants every day.
Whats the quickest way to find out if the school buses are cancelled due to inclement weather? Check the Student Transportation of Eastern Ontario website at www.steo.ca! Theres a great feature on the STEO website to relay delays or cancellations. The Delay or Cancellation feature can be found on the websites homepage at www.steo.ca. Updates are posted by 6:15 AM. Also, theres no need to call the school if your child will be absent because their bus is cancelled. BUT, please do contact us if your child is not a bus student, and is staying home due to inclement weather. We also try to keep our Facebook page up-to-date with bus cancellations.

Fearful Feelings* Remember how scary a lot of things looked when you were a child? Losing sight of your parents in a crowded shopping center, the blackness of night, or those monsters that lived under the bed. Even a happy, safe and secure childhood includes a very normal amount of fear. Fear is a natural and essential part of our human make up. It helps keep us safe. Try to be understanding and encourage your child to talk about
their fears, no matter how silly they may sound to you. Stay calm, and talk to them about situations where you yourself felt anxious about something. For more information on fears, or other parenting tips visit: www.triplepontario.ca or call 1 800 (660)-5853. *Adapted from Triple P Ontario Parenting Tip Sheet Feeling Fearful
When you call Arklan School, you will reach our voice mail system. You may dial your child's classroom and leave a message for your child's teacher or for your child. Messages will be checked and relayed on a regular basis. Of course, by dialing 0, you may still reach the main office directly.

Arklan Community Public School STEO (Transportation) Upper Canada District School Board
The Upper Canada District School Board, in conjunction with Mount Pakenham, is once again hosting the Champions 4 Kids Family Day Ski Event to raise funds for our Champions for Kids foundation. Champions for Kids helps level the playing field for children of struggling families. It gives them a helping hand to meet their Childrens medical needs and allow their kids to participate in sporting events, the arts, and other fun activities outside of school hours. On Monday, February 17th, we invite everyone to celebrate Family Day and help raise money for a worthy cause by embracing our beautiful Canadian winter and participating in one of the many outdoor activities offered at Mount Pakenham. Participants pay the regular costs and a portion of the fee goes to Champions for Kids. When you purchase a downhill skiing/boarding or tubing day/night pass, a percentage of the funds will be credited to the foundation. What a great deal for everyone! Participation is open to everyone; bring your friends, neighbours and family! More news and vouchers will come shortly! Please contact Paul LeRoy, Principal of Pakenham Public School if you would like more information. paul.leroy@ucdsb.on.ca or by phone at 613.624.5438
