Holding onto a good thought of Allah
A selected khutbah given by Sheikh Yahyaa Al-Hajoorie
(May Allah preserve him)

Indeed all praise is for Allah, We Praise Him as He deserves to be Praised,
we seek His Aid, And we turn to Him in repentance, And we seek refuge
with Him from the evil of our souls and from the evil of our actions. In-
deed whomsoever Allah guides there is no to mislead him and whomso-
ever Allah misguides there is none to guide him. And I bear witness that
there is no Deity worthy of Worship in Truth except Allah and I bear wit-
ness that Muhammad is the slave and Messenger of Allah.

you demand your mutual (rights) and do not cut the relations of the

[Surah Al-Ahzaab 33 /Verse 70-71]

Indeed the Best Speech is the Book of Allah (The Quran) and the Best of
Guidance is the Guidance of Muhammad the Messenger of Allah
And the worst of affairs are the newly invented matters (in the

Religion), and every newly invented matters are heresy, and every heresy
is misguidance and ever misguidance is in the Fire (Hell).

Allah addresses His two prophets, Musa and Haroon ,, in the
Quraan by saying:

Go both of you to Fir'aun (Pharaoh), verily, he has transgressed (all
bounds in disbelief and disobedience and behaved as an arrogant and as
a tyrant). And speak to him mildly, perhaps he may accept admonition or
fear (Allh). They said: Our Lord! Verily, we fear lest he should hasten to
punish us or lest he should transgress (all bounds against us)
He (Allh) said: Fear not, verily, I am with you both, hearing and
seeing[ [[ [Al-Quraan / Surah Ta-Ha 20/ Verse 43-46 [

This ayat shows the state of Allah being with the believer (i.e. By
way of His Help and Aid and protecting them from their enemies). And
when the Prophet emigrated from Mecca to Medina with his companion
Abu Bakr, the mushrikoon (polytheists) were following them, so they
entered into a cave and it saddened and grieved Abu Bakr due to them
being followed, Allah said:

H O L D I N G O N T O A G O O D T H O U G H T
HOLDING ONTO A GOOD THOUGHT OF ALLAH | 6

. . ,` - . - . , ,
He (the prophet Muhammad ) said to his companion
(Abu Bakr), Be not sad/grieved, surely Allah is with us
[ [[ [Surah At-Taubah 9 / Verse 40]

And in an authentic narration,

:

Abu Bakr said, O Messenger of Allah, if one of them was to look down at
their feet, they surely would have seen us, so he replied , O
Abu Bakr what is your thought about two people and Allah is the third of
them?

So Allah protected His Prophet and the Prophets
companion and did not permit the mushrikoon (polytheists) to see whom
Allah protected, bearing in mind that if anyone of them were to glance
down at their feet they would have surely have seen the Prophet
and his companion, but verily, the One Who wanted to protect
His prophet and his companion, He is the same One Who created their
eyesight for them, He is the One Who created the eyesight for the
mushrikoon as well as their hearts and all their limbs and He is the One
Who turns them how He wills, Allah says:

And We shall turn their hearts and their eyes away, as they refused to
believe there in the first time, and We shall leave them in their trespass
to wander blindly. .. .
[ [[ [Surah Al-Anaam 6 / Verse 110]

So Allah, He is the turner of the hearts and the eyes, He makes whom He
wills to see, and He makes whom He wills blind, regardless whether it is
the blindness of the hearts or the eyes, or the blindness of the insight.

O mankind, one of the greatest things that will bring about the ( )
state of Allah being with the slave (by way of His Help and Aid and
protection against his enemies), is by him holding on to a good thought of
Allah, which is a main factor for being obedient to Him, him holding on to
a good thought of Allah is a great affair, and him having an ill thought
about Allah is a dangerous situation. Allah has stated in His Noble Book:

, , , , , ` , , ' ` ` ' ,` , , ` ` ,
` , , ` , , - ` ` ' ` . ~ ` , ,` ,

Then as for him who will be given his Record in his right hand will say:
"Here! Read my Record! "Surely, I did hold the thought that I shall meet
my Account!" So, he shall be in a life, well-pleasing. In a lofty Paradise,
The fruits in bunches whereof will be low and near at hand. Eat and
drink at ease for that which you have sent on before you in days past!
[Surah Al-Haaqqah 69 / Verse 19-24]

So their good thought about Allah guided them to righteous deeds until
they met Allah with great honour, so he started to display his Book of
Records to the people by saying, come here, read this white beautiful
book of records wherein my good deeds are mentioned:

` .` ,` , ` ' ` ,` -` , ' ,` , ` ,`-` , ' ,` ` ,,

On the Day (i.e. the Day of Resurrection) when some faces will become
white and some faces will become black; as for those whose faces will

become black (to them will be said): "Did you reject Faith after accepting
it? Then taste the torment (in Hell) for rejecting Faith." And for those
whose faces will become white, they will be in Allh's Mercy (Paradise),
Therein they shall dwell forever. [ [[ [Surah Al-Imraan 3 / Verse 106-107]

So the faces of the believers will be white on the Day of Resurrection, and
even in this worldly life, and the causing factor for this, is the slave turning
to his Lord and holding on to a good thought of his Lord. The meaning of
holding on to a good thought of Allah, is such that if you were in a state of
ignorance, then you hold a good thought of Allah that He will teach you,
you exert your utmost in seeking knowledge and in understanding the
Deen of Allah and hold the good thought that Allah will grant you
success/open the gates of benefit for you, Allah says:

And Allh has brought you out from the wombs of your mothers while
you know nothing. And He gave you hearing, sight, and hearts that you
might give thanks (to Allh). . . . [Surah An-Nahl 16 / Verse 78]

And if you are in a state of illness, then during this time of illness, hope for
well-being and keep a good thought that Allah will restore you to good
health. Allah has said in regards to His Prophet Ibraahim . , ,,, saying:

` , ,` , ` .` . , ,
and when I am ill it is He Who cures me
[ [[ [Surah As-Shuaara 26 / Verse 80]

And if youre in a state of poverty then keep a good though about Allah
that He will make you free from wanting, enrich and suffice you. Allah
says:

HOLDING ONTO A GOOD THOUGHT OF ALLAH | 11

Allh provides for it and for you. And He is the All-Hearer, the All-
Knower. [ [[ [Surah Al-Ankabut 29 / Verse 60]

And if youre in a state of lowliness, humiliation and debasement then
keep a good thought about Allah that He will restore your honour to you.
Allah says:

Say (O Muhammad ), "O Allh! Possessor of the kingdom,
You give the kingdom to whom You will, and You take the kingdom from
whom You will, and You endue with honour whom You will, and You
humiliate whom You will. In Your Hand is the good.
Verily, You are Able to do all things.
[Surah Al-Imraan 3 / Verse 26]

And if youre in a state of distress, then keep a good thought about Allah
that He will make a way out for you and remove your grief and worries
and rectify your affair, for the reason that Allah is more deserving to be
held a beautiful thought about, and that Allah is exactly how the slave
thinks He is, and that which you thought about your Lord will come
about, and the proof for that and the likes of that is reported on the
authority of Abu Hurairah in Bukhari and Muslim, that the Prophet
narrated his Noble Lord saying:

:

I am how my slave thinks that I am, and I am with him if he remembers Me.
and in another narration: at the time he remembers Me and whosoever
remembers Me in himself, then I will remember him in Myself, and
whosoever remembers Me in a gathering/sitting then I remember him in a
gathering better than his gathering....

This hadeeth al-qudsi affirms that Allah is exactly how His slave thinks Him
to be, so whosoever thinks good about Him, then for him is this khair
(good), and at any time a person thinks good about his Lord then this
good will always be for the slave, because this good thought that you are
having about Allah will be how He is. Holding on to a good thought of

The three people from the companions: Kab ibn Maalik, Muraarah ibn Ar-
rabee and Hilaal ibn Umayyah, at the time when they remained behind in
the battle of Tabook (their story is mentioned in surat at-tawbah and in
the long hadeeth of Kab ibn Maalik) and Allah was aware of the good
thought that they were holding of Him and He forgave them and

Allh has forgiven the Prophet, the Muhjirn (Muslim emigrants who
left their homes and came to Al-Madinah) and the Ansr (Muslims of Al-
Madinh) who followed him (Muhammad in the time of distress (Tabk
expedition), after the hearts of a party of them had nearly deviated
(from the Right Path), but He accepted their repentance. Certainly, He is
to them full of kindness, Most Merciful. And (He did forgive also) the
three who did not join (the Tabk expedition and whose case was
deferred by the Prophet for Allh's Decision) till for them the earth, vast
as it is, was straitened and their own selves were straitened to them, and
they thought that there is no fleeing from Allh, and no refuge except
with Him. Then, He forgave them (accepted their repentance), that they
might beg for His Pardon (repent to Him). Verily, Allh is the One Who
forgives and accepts repentance, the Most Merciful.
[Surah At-Taubah 9 / Verse 117-118]

This is a very significant affair, that if you hold on to a good thought about
Allah, then Allah will extend out His Mercy unto you, and for that reason it
is authentically reported on the authority of Jaabir in saheeh muslim that
the Prophet said,

Let none of you die unless he keeps good thoughts about Allah
(i.e. He has good expectations from Allah).

Because that is something that will benefit him, he will meet Allah while
holding on to good thoughts about Him, that He (Allah) will have mercy
upon him, as well as him having good deeds with him. This good thought
that he is holding about Allah, is in itself, a good/righteous deed and this is
a sign of the success given from Allah to the slave. Holding a good
thought about Allah is from the means of receiving ease from calamities
and hardships. As for the one who holds an evil thought about Allah, then
he is destroyed, the prophet of Allah Yunus , , his people
angered him, his people wearied him out, they didnt respond to his call,
so he was angry with his people and left from amongst them and boarded
a ship/boat, the boat then became too heavy from the amount of people
on it, so they suggested that one from amongst them should descend
into the sea in order for them not to be destroyed all together, it was
either that they were to be destroyed all together, or that some of them
be destroyed while some of them are spared, Allah stated:

. -` ` ` . , ,` , ` .,` - `
` ,, ` -` ` ` . ` ` ' ` , _ = , .

Then he (agreed to) cast lots, and he was among the losers. Then a (big)
fish swallowed him as he had done an act worthy of blame. Had he not
been of them who glorify Allh, He would have indeed remained inside
its belly (the fish) till the Day of Resurrection.

. ` . .,' ,
And (remember) Dhun-Nn [Ynus (Jonah)], when he went off in
anger... ... ... ... [Surah An-Anbiya 21 / Verse 87]

Meaning, angry with his people, they tired him out, Allah saved them
before their destruction and forgave them (accepted their repentance).
Allah says:

` ` ,`, ` , . ,` , `. ,` , ` . .` ,
,` ' , - ` , - . ` ,` ,` ,`
- _ ` ,` ` ` ,

Was there any town (community) that believed (after seeing the
punishment), and its Faith (at that moment) who were saved from the
punishment? (The answer is none) Except the people of Ynus (Jonah);
when they believed, We removed from them the torment of disgrace in
the life of the (present) world, and permitted them to enjoy for a while.
[Surah Yunus 10 / Verse 98]

At the time when their prophet left from amongst them, they were
regretful and notified of the punishment; Allah extended out to them His
Mercy. And the point taken from the ayat, is that the Prophet of Allah
kept a good thought that Allah would not make his affairs difficult.

H O L D I N G O N T O A G O O D T H O U G H T
HOLDING ONTO A GOOD THOUGHT OF ALLAH | 17

O Believer, Allah will never make your affairs difficult as long as you keep
a good thought about Him, regardless whether you are in good health or
ill, or in poverty or wealth, in your country or elsewhere, or any
condition/circumstance that you might be in, know! That Allah will not
make it difficult for you and Allah did not make Dhan-Noons affairs
difficult when he was in the depths of the sea:

` , _ ` . ' ` = . ` . .,' ,
` : -` ` . ' . ' . =
= ` . ` , ` ` ,` - , ` ` - `
` ,` -` : ,

And (remember) Dhun-Nn [Ynus (Jonah)], when he went off in anger,
and held the thought that We shall not punish him (i.e. the calamities
which had befallen him)! (i.e. make his affairs difficult)
But he cried through the darkness (saying): "None has the right to be
worshipped but You (O Allh), Glorified (and Exalted) are You [above all
that (evil) they associate with You]! Truly, I have been of the wrong
doers." So, We answered his call, and delivered him from the distress.
And thus We do deliver the believers (who believe in the Oneness of
Allh, abstain from evil and work righteousness).
[Surah Al-Anbiya 21 / Verse 87-88]

And this is a tremendous great thought that he kept about Allah. Keep a
good thought of Allah that He will never constrict your affairs, that He will
not leave you and He will not decrease the reward of your good deeds,

H O L D I N G O N T O A G O O D T H O U G H T
HOLDING ONTO A GOOD THOUGHT OF ALLAH | 18

that He will not destroy you. Be keen to hold a good thought about Allah,
for verily that is a great affair. It has been established on the authority of
Anas ibn Maalik that the Prophet said:

I am how My slave thinks I am, and I am with him when He supplicates to
Me.

Can you ask for a greater blessing than this O Muslim! That, by you
keeping a good thought about Him in regards to something, He will give
you that good thought that you were thinking about Him due to you
having a good opinion of Him. So this is the utmost aspiration, the most
that you can wish for, and it is explained by the way of the hadeeth qudsi
of Abu Hurairah in Bukhari where it is related that Allah said:

I will declare war against him who treats with hostility a pious worshipper of
Mine. And the most beloved thing with which My slave comes nearer/closer
to Me, is what I have enjoined upon him; and My slave keeps on coming
closer to Me performing nawaafil (voluntary acts of worship) until I love
Him(so much so that) I become his hearing with which he hears, and his
sight with which he sees, and his hand with which he strikes, and his leg
with which he walks; and if he asks Me something, I will surely give him, and
if he seeks My Protection(refuge), I will surely protect him.

So if he was to ask his Lord, He would surely give it to him according to
the good thought he is holding about his Lord and that which he
requested, Allah will respond to his request. And its possible, it might

H O L D I N G O N T O A G O O D T H O U G H T
HOLDING ONTO A GOOD THOUGHT OF ALLAH | 19

have been merely a thought inside himself that he was thinking that he
desired even though he didnt supplicate for it, Allah was well acquainted
with his intention, the truthfulness of his intention and the righteous
nature of his innermost thoughts so Allah will grant him that which he
intended, (Allah says):

- ' ` ` ,` , - ` , ` ,`, ,` , - ` , ,, ` , ` , .
` ,
If Allah knows any good in your hearts; He will give you something
better than what has been taken from you.
[Surah Al-Anfaal 8 / Verse 70]

And in the before mentioned hadeeth, (I am how My slave thinks I am.),
the thought should be in the heart, meaning that if he holds on to a good
thought about Allah, then that good thought about Allah will occur and
prove true for him without any difficulty. For verily Allah is the Owner of
Great Bounty:

, = :` , ` . . ,
And ever great is the Bounty of Allah upon you. .. .
[Surah An-Nisa 4 / Verse 113]

So always hold onto a good thought about Allah in all your affairs, even in
your state of sickness, or the illness of your relatives, or your children, or
your family or those who transgress against you and the likes thereof
from these affairs that could be hazardous to mankind. Hold a good

thought of Allah that he will always put you in khair (a good state of
affairs) just as the Messenger (and he is the truthful, the
believed, the one who doesnt speak of his own desire) has promised,
(from the hadeeth:)

...

How wonderful is the case of a believer; there is good for him in
everything/in all of his affairs...

So therefore hold on to a good thought about Allah that He will put you in
a good state of affairs, no matter what situation/circumstance you may be
in, the most important thing is that you are a believer in reality/true
believer, and you carry out the various aspects of Eemaan, for if you carry
out the various aspects of Eemaan, then you will hold every good thought
about your Lord, yes, you will hold every good thought about your Lord,
(from the hadeeth:)

If prosperity attends him, he expresses gratitude to Allah and that is good
for him

O Slave of Allah, beware/ be cautious of thinking ill of Allah for verily by
Allah, it is destruction, it destroyed nations and caused them to fall into
the most constricted circumstances and the most severe, and made them
to be afflicted with cowardliness, having an ill thought about Allah is from
the causative factors of bringing about cowardliness upon mankind, it
makes him cowardly, just as Allah has stated in His Book:

party of you, while another party was thinking about themselves (as
how to save their own selves, ignoring the others and the Prophet

submissiveness (to Allah), whenever evil had befallen them, or harm, or
an attack/transgression from the mushrikoon or confederates, on the Day
of Uhud or anything else that befallen them, their Eemaan increased,
their certainty grew, their taqwaa became firm/strong, they increased in
(khair) goodness upon goodness:

And when the believers saw Al-Ahzb (the Confederates), they said:
"This is what Allh and His Messenger (Muhammad ) had

submissiveness (to Allh). Among the believers are men who have been
true to their covenant with Allh [i.e. they have gone out for Jihd (holy
fighting), and showed not their backs to the disbelievers]; of them some
have fulfilled their obligations (i.e. have been martyred); and some of
them are still waiting, but they have never changed (i.e. they never
proved treacherous to their covenant which they concluded with Allh)
in the least. That Allh may reward the men of truth for their truth (i.e.
for their patience at the accomplishment of that which they covenanted
with Allh), and punish the hypocrites, if He wills, or accept their
repentance by turning to them (in Mercy). Verily, Allh is Ever Oft-
Forgiving, Most Merciful. [Surah Al-Ahzaab 33 / Verse 22-24]

And the other group, they held an ill thought of Allah, as Allah described
them in suratul Ahzaab:

` , ` . - ` , ` , ` ,` , ,` , ,', ' ,
` . , ` , , ` , ,` ` - , - _ ` ,,` , ` _ ' ` ,` ` -
_ . , ., ` , ` ' ` , ` , ` , ` , ,` , -

O you who believe! Remember Allh's Favour to you, when there came
against you hosts, and We sent against them a wind and forces that you
saw not [i.e. troops of angels during the battle of Al-Ahzb (the
Confederates)]. And Allh is Ever All-Seer of what you do. When they
came upon you from above you and from below you, and when the eyes
grew wild and the hearts reached to the throats, and you were
harbouring doubts about Allh.
[Surah Al-Ahzaab 33 / Verse 9-10]

Ibn Katheer said about this ayat, that the thoughts that the people were
holding about Allah differed, some of them held a good thought about
Allah, just as Allah described them in another ayat:

, ` , ` ,` _ ,

H O L D I N G O N T O A G O O D T H O U G H T
HOLDING ONTO A GOOD THOUGHT OF ALLAH | 25

And it only added to their Eemaan and to their submissiveness (to Allah).
[Surah Al-Ahzaab 33 / Verse 22]

And the others, were those who held an ill thought of Allah and Allah
described those thoughts that they had, by that which became manifest
on their tongues:

, ` ` ,` , , ,, , , ., ` , , ,
_,` , ` ,` _ , `

And when the hypocrites and those in whose hearts is a disease (of
doubts) said: "Allh and His Messenger promised us
nothing but delusion!"
[Surah Al-Ahzaab 33 / Verse 12]

Up to the point that they held the thought that Allah and His Messenger
had promised them delusion and not promised them certainty nor
promised them truth! Wa laa hawla wa laa quwaata illaa billaah (And
there is no might nor power except with Allah).

So the peoples thoughts about Allah on that day were divided into two
categories, the category of the believers, their Eemaan was firm and they
held onto a good thought about Allah, and the other category, were
those who held ill thoughts about Allah, which brought about
cowardliness within themselves, just as Allah said:

., , , ` , - ` ~ ` - ,` , , .,' =,

And they thought wrongly of Allah-the thought of ignorance. They said

[Surah Al-Ahzaab 3 / Verse 154]

promises that the Messenger promised us are futile, they
were not genuine/true promises.

H O L D I N G O N T O A G O O D T H O U G H T

The ayat... all of it is within the context of this meaning and it indeed was
a strange affair.

O Servant of Allah, fear Allah! Just as you hold a good thought about
Allah, then hold about the Prophets of Allah and His Messengers ,,,
and the believers a good thought also, whosoever is upon
soundness/well-being and guidance (in his Deen) then he is deserving of
that good thought from you. And when the mushrikoon held an ill
thought about Allah and His Messenger they were destroyed:

, ` ` , ,` , ,
:' = ` , ,
The leaders of those who disbelieved among his people said, Verily we
see you in foolishness, and verily we think that you are one of the liars. .. .
[Surah Al-Araf 7 / Verse 66]

And the likes of this by which Allah has described them with, which in turn
led them to destruction and doubts and being distant from the truth and
pushing their limits in the religion of Allah and against the guidance of the
Prophets and Messengers, so hold onto a good thought about Allah. And
holding an ill thought about the slave will destroy him also, Our Lord has
said:

and that was made fair-seeming in your hearts, and you did think an evil
thought and you became a useless people going for destruction."
[Surah Al-Fath 48 / Verse 11-12]

Allah humiliated them a humiliation that they did not perceive, at the time
when the Messenger of Allah went out , they thought about him that he
wasnt going to return and that he was finished, that he was taken out
and eliminated and that they were relieved of him:

This is due to them having evil thoughts about Allah. Now look to the

Their evil/ill thought of Allah deprived them of being aware of Allah, it
deprived them and distanced them from possessing fear of Allah (from

they started to commit terrible things and commit sins/crimes due to the
fact that they thought about Allah that He would not see them nor would
He know their secret ideas and their secret counsels:

All praise is due to Allah, we praise Him, we seek His aid, and we seek His
forgiveness. And I bear witness that none has the right to be worshipped
except for Allah, who has no partner, and I bear witness that Muhammad
is His slave and messenger (may Allahs salaat and peace be upon him and
his family in abundance)

To proceed

Ill thoughts are many, but verily the greatest and most severe of them,
and the most evil of the ill thoughts that one can hold, are the ones held
about Allah, and due to them being so much in number, Allah has said:

` , . ` = ` _ ,` ` - ,` , ,', ' ,
` , ` =
O you who believe! Avoid much suspicion (bad thoughts) indeed some
suspicions are sins... ... ... ... [Surah Al-Hujuraat 49 / Verse 12]

Sins vary and differ in their greatness and magnitude, and the greatest sin
(in regards to suspicion/bad thoughts of anyone) is holding an ill thought
of Allah, for verily it is danger. So therefore hold a good thought about
Allah, and hold a good thought about the believers, and avoid holding
many ill thoughts about the believers and about Allah even before that,
and His Messengers. Hold a good thought about Allah in all situations and
circumstances, Allah has said:

H O L D I N G O N T O A G O O D T H O U G H T
HOLDING ONTO A GOOD THOUGHT OF ALLAH | 34

` , ' ` , ` , , , ` ,` ' ,` ` ` ,` . ` ' .

` _ ` ,` . - ` , ` , ` , ,` ,
They are but names which you have named you and your fathers for
which Allh has sent down no authority. They follow but a thought and
that which they themselves desire, whereas there has surely come to
them the guidance from their Lord! [Surah An-Najm 53 / Verse 23]

Allah has sent down the guidance and made the guidance clear, so hold a
good thought and opinion about Him and refrain from the following of
desires and the different things that will branch out from desires that will
distance you from holding a good thought about your Lord, no matter
what the circumstance may be, whether alone by yourself, ill/sick,
expelled, regardless the circumstance, Allah will never neglect you, (from
the hadeeth:)

(Verily this is a household which Allah will never neglect its
people/members)

That came from having a good thought about Allah, the Prophet of Allah
Ibrahim at the time when he placed his family in that valley, an
uninhabited valley ,wherein there was no rain, neither trees, nor any
inhabitants, not even one person from amongst the people, with the
exception of the birds, rather, on the other hand there might even have
been beasts and wild animals, and in spite of that, when Allah ordered
him with that affair, he placed his family there and then departed, he said:

H O L D I N G O N T O A G O O D T H O U G H T

O our Lord! I have made some of my offspring to dwell in an
uncultivable valley by Your Sacred House (the Ka'bah at Makkah) in
order, O our Lord, that they may perform As-Salt (the prayers). So fill
some hearts among mankind with love towards them... ... ... ... [Surah Al-
Ibraahim 14 / Verse 37]

He requested from his Lord that He makes that area a place where the
peoples hearts will incline towards, everyone desiring that place:

.,` , ` , ` ,` , . , ` ,` , ` _` _,
And (O Allah) provide them with fruits, so that they may give thanks.
[Surah Al-Ibraahim 14 / Verse 37]

Allah responded to his prophetic supplication from the Prophet of Allah
Ibrahim and made that place where the peoples hearts descend i.e. you
will not find a believer on the face of the earth except that his soul, heart,
and spirit yearns/longs for that place, the place where the mother of
Ismaaeel used to be, and verily Allah has bestowed His blessings upon
those people from the times of old up until now, and made their
provisions come to them from every side/angle:

H O L D I N G O N T O A G O O D T H O U G H T
HOLDING ONTO A GOOD THOUGHT OF ALLAH | 36

to which are brought fruits of all kinds, a provision from Ourselves... .. .. ..
[Surah Al-Qasas 28 / Verse 57]

And made amongst them security/safety and bestowed upon them many
blessings/favours:

, , `, , .` ,` . , . ` ` - _ ` , , , ,` ` ` ,
.` , ` . _ ` ` ,` , , _,` - ` ,` , ~ '

(It is a great grace from Allh) for the protection of the Quraish, (And
with all those Allh's grace and protections, We cause) the (Quraish)
caravans to set forth safe in winter (to the south) and in summer (to the
north without any fear), So let them worship (Allh) the Lord of this
House (the Ka'bah in Makkah), (He) Who has fed them against hunger,
and has made them safe from fear. [Surah Quraysh 106 / Verse 1-4]

On account of this prophetic supplication at the time when he held a
good thought of Allah that He would not forsake/neglect his family, and
surely enough He never forsaken his family.

H O L D I N G O N T O A G O O D T H O U G H T
HOLDING ONTO A GOOD THOUGHT OF ALLAH | 37

O My Brother, Allah is the One Who created man, O My Brother, Allah is
the One Who created the universe, all of it in its totality! How can He
neglect you/forsake you when you are a slave to Him. Verily it is merely
nothing more than a purification and a testing that might occur, but as for
you thinking about Allah that He is going to destroy or forsake you, or
that He might give power to your enemies over you, or over His Awliyaa
(those close to Allah), or that Allah will give absolute establishment to
kufr over Islaam or the likes of that, because all of that is not permissible!
There are a lot of ill thoughts that are not permissible for a believer to
hold, and its not permissible for him to hold these thoughts in his chest.
As for the statement of Allah:

= , ,` = , .,'
... ... ... ...and you were harbouring doubts (ill thoughts) about Allah. .. . [Surah Al-
Ahzaab 33 / Verse 10]

Then verily the meaning of it is that there was some from them who held
a good thought about Allah and they were the believers, and some from
them who were holding ill thoughts about Allah, and those were the
hypocrites, just as how Allah had described them. So this is how the
believers habit/manners with his Lord, and with the believing slaves of
Allah and his brothers should be. Allah has stated when He mentioned the
incident of the lie that took place.

` , ` ,` ` - ` , ` ` .` : , , ,` , - , .
. ` ,` ,` ` ,` ` , `,` , - ,` , ,

H O L D I N G O N T O A G O O D T H O U G H T
HOLDING ONTO A GOOD THOUGHT OF ALLAH | 38

, , , ` ,, = ` . ` ` ,` ,` ` ,` _ , ` ,
,` , - ` , , ' , ` . ` ,` , .,` ` ,` ` ~ ` ,` ` `
` ' ` : , ,

Verily, those who brought forth the slander (against Ahyishah [radhi-
yAllhu 'anhaa] the wife of the Prophet ) are a group
among you. Consider it not a bad thing for you. Nay, it is good for you.
To every man among them will be paid that which he had earned of the
sin, and as for him among them who had the greater share therein, his
will be a great torment. Why then did not the believers, men and
women, when you heard it (the slander), think good of their own people
and say: This (charge) is an obvious lie? [Surah An-Nur 24 / Verse 11-12]

At the time when they heard that discussion about the mother of the
believers, Ahyishah, the wife of the Prophet, that perhaps one of them
might have thought-from the men and the women that in regards to the
prophet that this would not happen by Allahs permission, i.e. that this
incident in regards to him, he would never do such a thing himself by the
tawfeeq from Allah, so even more so to hold a good thought about the
mother of believers that she wouldnt do such a thing,

` ,` , .,` ` ,` ` ~ ` ,` ` ` ` , ` , , ' , ` .
,` , -

H O L D I N G O N T O A G O O D T H O U G H T
HOLDING ONTO A GOOD THOUGHT OF ALLAH | 39

Why then did not the believers, men and women, when you heard it (the
slander) think good of their own people? ?? ?
[Surah An-Nur 24 / Verse 12]

It was said to one of the believing women:

Would you do such a thing, she said, no so he said, then verily the mother
of the believers, Ahyishah is better than you.

So this is the nature of the good thought that should be held about those
whom are known to be adherents to guidance and good
conduct/righteousness, and adherents to the deen, just as you would not
do that affair, that matter or thing, then know that this affair, inshaa-
Allah, he will not do also (by Allahs permission) due to Allahs tawfeeq for
him and well-being that He wants for him and His aid for His believing
slave.

We ask Allah for tawfeeq and sadaad and that He repels from us fitnah (al
fitan), that which is apparent from it and that which is concealed/hidden.

It affirms the purity of Faith and Sincerity of Belief of those Believers

In this connection, it is narrated by al-Imaam al-Bukhari, an-Nisaai, and al-
