SETTLE OK: GUIDELINES TO AVOID INJURY WHILE USING COMPUTER

Your environment should provide proper posture . The chair, desk and computer should be well placed , and you have to feel comfortable when using. Listen to your body : feel some discomfort is the first sign that something is wrong. Display: Must be at eye level , so it is not necessary raise or lower the head to see it . Keyboard: The ideal place is to the elbows , but no problem if it is a few inches below . If your position is different , the user is exposed to injury: According to Dr. Mario Alfonso Giraldo, physiatrist Hospital Universitario San Vicente Foundation, " when it is too low , either because the chair is too high or because the table is too low , the patient may suffer tendonitis elbow and fingers. " Otherwise , when it is very high, the doctor states that " the fingers have to make a big effort to contract , and may generate a tendinitis in the elbow or fingers ." Mouse: The distance between the shoulder and the mouse should not be very large. According Giraldo, " ideally move the elbow and not the wrist , or at least the entire arm." Your elbow should be slightly bent and the arm should not be tense . Dolls : They must be bent between 10 and 20 degrees up . The same as when the keyboard is too high when more flexed occurs . Legs: Knees and hips should be bent at an angle of 90 . When the angle is greater or less , says the doctor, " the back fatigue " and may become fatigue and injury. Feet: should always be supported . When you are in the air, the doctor says , " the back should make a good effort to maintain balance and increases fatigue ." Back: You have to follow four guidelines. The first one is not too lean . The doctor says , "The idea is that the back is tilted only about 10 or 20 degrees backward ." The second recommendation is to keep the rest of the body well supported in the near 90 degree angle. " The back will be stable if the legs and hip are stable ," said Giraldo. The third is not leaning towards either side , and the fourth is that the back of the chair arrived, up to the height of the back. Follow all these tips will allow you to outrun the dreaded back pain. Do you use a laptop? Dr. Giraldo makes two recommendations for those who work with a desktop computer . The first is to always work on a table with a comfortable posture. Second,

buy an external mouse because the trackpad "is more likely to make unwanted movements ." In a forthcoming paper we will give more specific guidelines for ergonomics for laptop users .
