Summer B and TRAD Migration Update - 05/03/13

Migration
This week has been hectic in the eLearning Department but ended with many accomplishments. Our four new team members began their first work week in the converted Migration Lab on the second floor of the library. They have quickly excelled in their learning curves, resulting in the migration of several courses. Summer B migration is now complete, and we are moving into the Fall A and on-campus courses on schedule.

The migration team is also preparing to assist facultyespecially on-campus instructors who would like one-on-one assistance with migrating their content from Angel to Canvas. Our one-hour introductory training will include demonstrations on how to copy or import content from Angel, syllabus conversion and upload, a tour of the gradebook, assignments, and discussions, and answers to your questions about quizzes and question banks. The Migration Lab is located on the second floor of the library (same room as the Math Lab). Hours are 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., Monday to Friday throughout the summer.

Training

The following information about Canvas training opportunities is repeated from last weeks status report. Please contact Emily Wargo for more information or questions about these important training sessions. The Training Course for Instructors teaching Summer B sessions online is set to begin May 17th and will run until June 9th. The course will be taught by Adjunct Instructor Terri Melincoff, and Emily Wargo (eLearning Department) will oversee it. The course is still graded and required for teaching within Canvas, but there will be only one assignment that students will need to submit and one discussion forum that they will need to participate in (to demonstrate the video/audio features within Canvas). There will now be a Staff Specific Workshop for New Users to learn about Canvas, scheduled for May 20th from 1:303pm. Heres the link to sign up for this: http://www.signupgenius.com/go/5080C4CACAD2BA46-canvas2. Heres the description: A webinar will be held for all Summer B Instructors new to Canvas prior to start of the course, on May 9th from 121pm. Instructors have been notified via email and given the directions to participate online.

Canvas for New Users: Staff Specific

Are you Staff at Champlain who wants to learn more about Canvas? This will be a Hands-on Training Session given by a member of the eLearning team. The main purpose will be to get Staff at Champlain College more prepared for using the Canvas Learning Management System. Focus will be on particular components of Canvas that are already being used in Angel, and will expand to introduce the new tools that Canvas will offer for Staff. o o o DATE: 5/20/2013 (Mon 1:30PM - 3:00PM) LOCATION: MIC 308 CREATED BY: Emily Wargo
