Figure 2 The transformer of Figure 2 is ideal. The resistance R L is variable and represents the load. Its value is adjusted to maximize the power transfer from the circuit to R L . Figure 3 An industrial workshop consists of three loads connected in parallel as shown in Figure 3. The characteristics of the individual loads are the following: Load L 1 : Load L 2 : Load L 3 : absorbs 20 KVA at a power factor of 0.8 lagging. is composed of a resistance of 15 in parallel with an inductance whose reactance is 30 . has an unknown power but its power factor is 0.6 lagging.

The global power factor (the 3 loads together) is 0.707. Calculate: (14%) i) The apparent power, the active power and the reactive power of the load L 3 .

The two switches in the circuit of Figure 4 operate in a synchronous fashion. When switch 1 is in position a, switch 2 is closed. When switch 1 is in position b, switch 2 is open.
