Objective: To determine the Discharge of a Triangular Weir Apparatus: 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. 7. Theory:

The discharge over the triangular weir is given by the formula Where: H discharge over orifice C discharge coefficient angle of opening of weir g pull of gravity Removing the discharge coefficient C will result to the theoretical discharge

Procedure: 1. 2. 3. 4. Measure the dimension of the rectangular weir. Measure the width of the flume of the channel. Attach the weir to the flume. Adjust the flume to the desired slope.

5. Transfer the elevation of the crest of weir to the side of the flume using the levelling hose. Mark it using a pentel pen or ballpen and masking tape. The mark must be placed at 12 distance way upstream from the crest. The critical depth is approximately equal to 2/3 the head of the crest. 6. Slowly open the main gate valve. Collect enough water in the volumetric tank. 7. Open the valve controlling the flow of the water to the flume. Wait until the discharge is constant. Observe the level of water in the flume. If the level of water is increasing, it means that the incoming water to the flume is greater than the water going out from the weir. The head is increasing. If the level of water remains the same, then the incoming water is equal to out going water. The head of water over the weir remains constant. The volume of water in the flume remains the same. 8. Measure the head over the crest of the weir. Observation: Weir Dimensions Channel Dimensions Length of weir Height of opening Width Length 5.1 cm 11.9 cm 7.5 cm 23 cm

Careful in handling apparatus and performing the procedure properly should also be considered to obtain accurate result. LASPINAS, Aemryl The discharge of the weir is determined by the measured dimensions; the weir, the head of water and its volume. It is necessary that the head is constant and couple of trials are needed to have precise values. NAVARRO, Emmanuel It is very important to have constant head first before starting the experiment to have a precise value of discharge of rectangular weir. REYES, Dion This experiment further validated an important theories in rectangular weirs: at constant head, discharge can be obtained given the height of weir, time elapsed and volume of 1.18 li/sec 0.87 li/sec 0.71

water. The channel initially produces varying heads until the water flow becomes constant. In this experiment, coefficients of discharge should be applied as there are losses and variations from its theoretical value.
