Research on component of agricultural technology and fruits farming

Organization and History

Indonesian Agency of Agriculture Research and Development (IAARD) is one of agencies of Department of Agriculture. Agency for Agriculture Research and Development consists of some central research institutes. Central Research Institute for Horticulture (CRIH) is one of central research institutes under AARD. CRIH is composed of three research institutes; Indonesian Vegetable Research Institute at Lembang-West Java, Indonesian Ornamental Plant Research Institute at Segunung-West Java and Indonesian Fruit Research Institute (formerly Research Institute for Fruits) at SolokWest Sumatera. IFRURI was founded in 1985 with the name Horticulture Research Institute and the mandate on research of fruit crops. In 1994, the name was changed into more specific name; there was Research Institute for Fruits. Indonesian Fruit Research Institute is exposed in 2003. Internal organization of IFRURI is described at Figure 1. The division of personal manager is in charge of human resources management, financial and facilities management. Supporting service division assists the director for preparing research programs, monitoring, evaluating, reporting and facilitating the research. The number of staffs of Indonesian Fruit Research Institute (IFRURI) up to May 2003 is 142 staffs (70 researchers, 30 technicians and 40 administration staffs). The staff of IFRURI arranged by degree is described at Table 1.

Facilities
The successful of the researches require sufficient facilities. Those facilities are plant breeding and tissue culture laboratories, post harvest, chemical, plant protection laboratories, screen houses and experimental fields. Currently, IFRURI is developing research model and agrotourism. Indonesian Fruit Research Institute has three experimental fields; there are Sumani experimental field (25 ha.) and Aripan experimental field (96 ha.) at SolokWest Sumatera and Brastagi experimental field (25.9 ha.) at North Sumatera. In order to facilitating research dissemination, training course and seminar, IFRURI sets up auditorium (for 100 people), 3 unit guest houses (for 18 people), dormitory (for 32 people) and cafeteria (for 70 people).

Research Collaborations
Indonesian Fruit Research Institute develops research collaboration with national and international institutes. The aspects of collaborations consist of germplasm management, plant breeding, plant protection, fertilizer and dissemination (Table 3)
