Presidents Message
Dear Fellow Members
Thank you once again for electing your present Committee, who
are now in place and have been busy taking over their various
duties. It gives me great pleasure to introduce the members of the
Committee individually.
KP Lee has been a stalwart haing sered on many committees,
including the last one. He rides regularly and has also played
polo. He will be looking after the House (i.e. the Clubhouse and
all activities within it.
Kein \ilkinson, as lon. Secretary will oersee the
administration of the Club and will concentrate on right-
sizing its management as well as in improving communications
with members. Kevin has also served on many committees, in
practically every role. He and his wife, Anne, actively play polo.
1he new lon. 1reasurer, Graham Cox is a banker who been on
the Finance sub committee in the past. He and his wife Anna
both play polo and together with their children, are at the club
most days.
Je lardee has preiously sered on arious Committees and
brings a wealth of expertise to this one. Both he and his son,
John are accomplished polo players. Jeff has served as Polo
Captain previously and takes on this role once again.
\ith his thoroughness and knowledge o all constitutional
matters, Ian Lander brings much needed knowledge to review
our Rules and Bye-Laws, through a sub committee which he will
head up.
Asad Jumabhoy is amongst the highest ranked polo players
the Club has ever produced. He serves on the Council of
the International Polo lederation ,lIP,, and is well qualiFed
to be on the Committee. When he served on the Committee
previously, he was responsible for creating the Club newsletter,
which remains a lasting contribution. All four of his children
ride or play polo at the Club.
Gary 1iernan will head the Riding Sub-Committee. le and his
wife, Melissa, are familiar faces at the club. Both their children
were born while they have been members of the Club and they
are active both at the Club and overseas.
Lynly long heads the Stables sub-Committee. She and her
husband, Jono, are both accomplished business persons and
have played polo all over the world. Their children ride in the
Riding Section. She is heading up the Stables Sub Committee.
Brian Reinhart and his wie Viian are ery inoled in the
Riding section and can be seen tirelessly contributing to almost
every area of the Club and its activities. Brian heads the Non
Equestrian/Social Sub Committee.
Grounds and lacilities is a large portolio and Paul Murphy is
an ideal person to head this area. He has taken on this task with
great energy and I am sure that we will see great things due to his
contributions. He currently also serves on the RDA committee
and has previously been its treasurer.
Most of the sub-committees have now been formed and we have
involved more than 20 persons from outside the Committee in
these. I am certain that the Club will gain from the experience and
expertise of these dedicated volunteers.
I hope to be able to announce dates soon for various forums,
which we intend to hold to meet members and to share plans, listen
to suggestions and also to update members on progress. We also
intend to keep regular posts on the Club Notice Boards so that
members can stay in touch with Committee activities and decisions.
Please do not hesitate to speak with any of your Committee
members if you would like to bring anything to our attention.
Heres to a great year!
Best regards
Iqbal Jumabhoy

S
ingapore`s Frst International borrowed horse competition
CSIY-B was held on 3rd to 5th February. In support of
this, the Club loaned three horses: 1eddy \anes, Lenny
Hays and Popcorn. The Singapore team of Caroline Chew
,riding Club horse 1eddy \anes,, 1osca Little and 1anis McGrath
won the Team competition on Saturday. Club horse, Popcorn,
with Australian rider Thomas Smith placed third in the Individual
competition on Sunday. The Clubs team of Erin Buswell and
Alana Thorburn beat off stiff competition from BSTC and NEC
and won the Patrons Cup; the Clubs riders Sasha Thorburn,
Erin Buswell and Jackie Duffy took home the three placings for
the Individual competition. Club members Timothy Khoo-Jones,
Brian Reinhart, Neil Thorburn and Paul Cuthbertson volunteered
as oFcial ground crew and ably assisted oFcial course designer or
the event, Predrag Marjanovic.
Alana: I was very proud to represent the Singapore Polo Club in the Patrons
Cup. I rode Falco who is a school pony. I competed in a team with Erin Buswell
who is a fellow squad member and she rode a school pony called Toby. We found
it very fun and competitive; the other teams also did really well and we were very
happy to win. Overall I think that the show was a great idea and it was good for
us to compete in such a way with the other clubs and to watch the riders compete
in the borrowed horse competition. It was a great experience.

The TREADZ adventure started
in 2008 during a trip in Argentina.
The Alpargatas shoe fascinated
the two founders, because of its
style, comfort and also its history:
During the Spanish colonization,

introduced into South America.
The inhabitants wanted to adapt
the espadrille to their needs.
People working in the felds
needed a stronger, more practical

easier, faster and cheaper to
manufacture. This gave birth to
the Alpargata shoe.
The Alpargata was originally
made for farmers and Gauchos,
but after generations, it started
to catch on with the rest of the
population because of its comfort
and its original style. It is today an
