1.6 Gauges and rneasurlnq instrumenls For checking pump perlormance, it is recommended lo provide apressure gauge on lhe discharge side and apressure vacuum gallge on lhe suction side. Screw lhe gauges into lapped neles in lhe discharqe and suction flanges respeclively. To protsct lhe gauges, lest cocks should be provided. Open pelcocks only lo check lhe pressure. The callbrated range 01 lhe gauges ShoulO be ai least 20 % higher Ihan max. pump head ai zero flow (ciosed valve). To check lhe load 01 lhe electric motor, an ammeler should be provided.

4. Taking pump out of operation for a long period


When lhe pump is no! operating for a long period, lhe shalt should be lurned by hand aI regular intervals lo preveni lhe reter binding. 11 Ihere is danger 01 trost, the pump should be drained complelely. To lhis end, remove the drain plugs and open lhe venl plugs ar cocks,

5. Fault finding and remedy

Mechanical seals are rnalntenance-tree and are designed lo work wilhout leakage loss.
