PART 2
2011 1. (a) (b) 2. Define inversion of mechanism. Explain with the help of suitable sketches the inversion of double slider crank mechanism. (8) What are straight line mechanisms? Describe one type of exact straight lime motion mechanism with the help of a sketch. (8)
(a) The driving crank AB of the quick return mechanism, as shown in Figure 1 revolves at a uniform speed of 200 r.p.m. find the velocity and acceleration of the tool-box R, in the position shown, when the crank makes as angle of 60 with the vertical line of centers PA. What is the acceleration of sliding of the block at B along the slotted lever PQ? (12)

(b) Draw and explain Kleins construction for determining the acceleration of the piston of a reciprocating engine. (4) 2010 1. (a) (b) What do you mean by inversion of mechanism? Describe with the help of suitable sketches the inversion of a slider crank chain. (6) In the mechanism shown in the figure 1, the dimensions of the various links are as under: AB = 30 mm, BC = 45 mm, CD = 40mm AD = 65 mm, CE = 40 mm, and DAB = 75 The crank AB rotates at 600 rpm in counterclockwise direction. Determine the linear acceleration of slider E and angular acceleration of link BC.

What do you mean by instantaneous centre? State and prove Arnold Kennedy theorem.
(4)
What do you mean by Coriolis acceleration? Show that Coriolis acceleration is 2 wv. Also suggest the procedure to find the direction of Coriolis acceleration. (6) With a neat sketch, explain the working principle of Scott-Russel mechanism. (6)
2009 1. (a) (b) Draw and describe Whitworth Quick Return Mechanism. (6)
The crank of an engine is 200 mm long and connecting rod length to crank radius is 4. The crank has turned through 45 from inner dead centre position. The uniform speed of rotation of crank is 240 r.p.m. clockwise. Determine velocity and acceleration of slider.(10) OR

UNIT-I
Locate instantaneous centres for the following 4-bar chain and determine velocity of point X if crank AB is rotating at 60 r.p.m. clockwise. (10)
B X A BAD = 60 C BX = 10 cm D AB = 10 cm BC = 45 cm CD = 15 cm DA = 35 cm
2008 What is meant by inversion of a mechanism? Describe with the help of suitable sketches the inversion of (a) slider crank chain and (b) double slider chain. What are the different forms of quadric cycle chain? OR 1. In a slider crank mechanism, the crank is 500 mm long and rotates at 20 rad/s in the clockwise direction. The length of connecting rod is 1600 mm when the crnak turn 60. (see fig.) Draw velocity and acceleration diagrams.
