The semester system will help the students to gain strong basis for further postgraduate studies in biotechnology as well as allied fields. The students would also be groomed for industryoriented jobs or post graduate program or any other business branch related to biotechnology. Eligibility for B.Sc. Biotechnology Semester Course A student who has obtained at least 50% marks in the subjects Biology, Physics, Chemistry and/or Mathematics at the 12th Std. examination, with English as a medium of instructions, of any recognized board or its equivalent will be considered eligible for admission to B.Sc. Biotechnology Course. The overall structure of the course to be implemented from the academic year 20102011 is as follows: 1. The B. Sc. Biotechnology course will be conducted in 6 semesters. 2. The entire course shall be covered in 20 theory papers, 12 practical courses and one scientific review writing course. The total marks for each theory and each practical course will be 100, and review writing will also be out of 100 marks, totaling 3300 marks. 3. Each theory paper will be covered in 4 lectures of one clock hour each per week. Similarly, each practical course will be covered in 4 practicals, each of 34 clock hours duration, per week. 4. Thus, each theory paper will be covered in 45 lectures of one clock hour each per semester. Similarly, each practical course will be covered in minimum 15 practicals, each of 34 clock hours duration, per semester. 5. Review writing on prescribed topics will be carried out in the 6th semester. Rules for Examinations: Examination for the theory courses as well as practical courses will be conducted at the end of each respective semester. The theory exam will be of 100 marks for each course, out of which, 20 marks will be allotted for an internal assessment which will be conducted throughout the semester in the form of tests, tutorials, seminars, oral presentations etc., and the University exam will be of 80 marks. The practical course will be assessed for 80 marks each at the time of semester practical exam, and 20 marks will be for continuous internal assessment, which includes tests, orals, journal writing, tour report etc. The duration for theory exam will be three hours.
