by the attorney-client privilege.)
During my legal career I have dedicated myself to serving victims of domestic violence,
sexual abuse and child abuse. In this capacity, I have worked tirelessly to ensure that the
criminal justice system functions appropriately to serve these vulnerable populations. As
part of this commitment, I was responsible for initiating a domestic violence protocol
between the Denver District Attorney's Office and the Denver Police Department. This
17
protocol standardized the investigative methods and resource referrals to victims to
ensure that each victim was treated appropriately. Additionally, I spearheaded a protocol
between the Denver District Attorney's Office, Denver Police Department, Denver
Human Services, Denver Health and Hospitals and non-profit organizations to
standardize and ensure the age appropriate treatment of child victims and witnesses in the
court system. This protocol ensured a number of safeguards for children including
limiting the number of interviews conducted with a child by professionals in the system,
ensuring an immediate medical examination for every child where medically needed and
development of a forensic interviewing program.
In addition to these activities, I worked tirelessly to ensure that lawyers and other
professionals within the system learned to effectively serve victims impacted by these
crimes. To this end, I have taught extensively to rural and outside jurisdictions about the
law and dynamics involved in the prosecution of child abuse and domestic violence
CrImes.
