getting back to the kitchen with cooking basics. Children who are involved in meal preparation are more likely to eat the foods they have helped to prepare. Cooking with kids is a great way to teach important life skills and we know that youth want to learn by doing. Cooking with kids can strengthen what they are learning at school in science, math and language classes. It also provides some time to be creative and build selfconfidence. Consider these ideas: Younger children can help measure ingredients and stir. The older ones can help peel and chop vegetables. As their confidence and skills grow they can help bake, broil or saut. To save time, prepare some ingredients before you start cooking with your children. Include children in setting and clearing the table and cleaning up as you go along- this is all part of meal prep. Involve children in cooking on weekends, this may give everyone more time to teach and learn. Try using easy-to-follow recipes with lots of tasks that children can take on themselves.
