Campaign Check List

 Posters: Each candidate is allowed a limit of 4 posters, no larger

than 22”x14”. They may be made out of construction paper or poster
board/railroad board. No foam core board; it’s too heavy to hang.
Photos may be used, but we cannot guarantee their safe return.
Posters should be made by the candidate. They must be neat with all
words spelled correctly. A catchy slogan is helpful! Come prepared
with top corners hole-punched & tie with pipe cleaners. NO TAPE
ALLOWED. Posters must be hung on Monday, October 26th between
7:45 and 8:10 AM. Must be taken down on Tuesday, November 4rd by
2:10 PM.

 Badges: Badges may be up to 4”x4”. Each badge must be made by

the candidate & have a closable pin and must include the candidate’s
first and last name and the office for which the candidate is running. A
catchy slogan is helpful! Cardboard badges with a safety pin taped on
the back works well. If you use plastic nametag holder, tape the sides
so your card does not fall out. No stickers or labels; they make a
mess on the yard and in the classroom.

 Bookmarks: Bookmarks may be made by the candidate and must

include the candidate’s first and last name and the office for which the
candidate is running. A catchy slogan is helpful! Bookmarks may be up
to 2 ¼” x 8 ½ “.

 No other campaign items permitted: flyers, keychains, etc. ONLY

badges or bookmarks made by the candidate are allowed.
5 Student Council Election Packet
 All posters, badges and bookmarks MUST be positive and appropriate.
Advertise why you would be good for the job. (Stay focused on the
positive!) A catchy slogan is often helpful!

 While campaigning, demonstrate school spirit and pride.

 NO BRIBES of food or money will be tolerated. The candidate will be

disqualified for these actions.

 Write a campaign speech. Use your imagination. Short and snappy

slogans are most memorable. Speeches should be no more than 2
minutes long. Remember to let students know who you are and why
you are the best candidate for the office. Do not give any empty
promises or unrealistic suggestions (e.g. candy vending machines,
more recess or no homework). Speak positively, loudly, clearly and
slowly and look at your audience. Practice at home. SPEECHES MUST
BE GIVEN SOLELY BY CANDIDATE: no other students or adults
may participate in campaign speeches. All props must be
approved by Mrs. Davis and Mrs. TerVeer by Tuesday, October
27nd. Speeches must be approved by your teacher.

 Remember to congratulate all of the candidates for their willingness to

serve Canyon and for taking the time and interest to prepare such
excellent campaigns.
