GOVERNMENT VACANCY JOB TITLE: PUBLIC PROSECUTOR

DEPARTMENT: Ofce of the Director of Public Prosecutions

LOCATION: Providenciales

JOB SUMMARY: The incumbent in this position will be responsible for conducting prosecutions at all levels of Court, including Magistrates Court, Supreme Court and Court of Appeal. Prosecutors must also be responsible for providing accurate legal advice to the Royal Turks and Caicos Islands Police Force and other governmental enforcement agencies at short notice with respect to the application of the law. KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Assist Senior Prosecutors in complex cases Conduct research of complex areas of law and argue in Court Prepare cases for trial Ensure that all disclosure obligations are met Conduct trials both before Magistrates and juries Argue appeals before the Court of Appeal Prepare and conduct sufciency hearings in the Supreme Court when called upon Appear at Plea and Directions in the Supreme Court when called upon Respond to Mutual Legal Assistance Requests from other jurisdictions Assist in the conduct of Extradition proceedings Conduct Conscation proceedings Respond to queries made by government departments Respond to public enquiries Provide legal advice to all government departments Undertake tasks assigned by the Director of Public Prosecutions Conduct seminars and train members of law enforcement agencies on legal issues regarding the applicable laws e.g. Customs, Immigrations and Police Ofcers. Assist in the development of new legislation and the review or amendment of old legislation. Adhere to all Public Service codes, rules and regulations. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE:

A Bachelors Degree of Law or equivalent A legal Profession certicate would be an asset Specialized training in Criminal Law Admittance to the bar in the Turks and Caicos Islands At least two (2) years experience in the legal eld SALARY: $49,080 per annum Telephone Allowance $1,200 per annum Transportation allowance $2,220 per annum APPLICATION PROCEDURE Resumes with current contact information must be accompanied by a Cover Letter and two letters of reference (one preferably from a former employer) as well as copies of educational certicates and a copy of the Passport photo page.
