1. The PASS writing test will be given on Tuesday, March 18 and Wednesday, March 19 to all students in grades 3, 4, and 5. Schedule appointments and out of school activities for another day. All students will make up tests that are missed. 2. Testing will begin at 8:00 each day. Be sure your child is well-rested and on time. Avoid a rushed morning or discussions that may upset your child. 3. Have your child eat a healthy and filling breakfast. 4. Parents and students in the building are not permitted any electronic devices during testing. This includes cell phones, calculators, and watches with alarms. 5. Encourage your child to do his/her best on all days of testing. Eliminate pressure and send them off with a hug and a smile! Sara Beckman School Counselor

Music Notes . . .
Our third grade musical, Mighty Minds will be presented on Tuesday, March 11 at 6:30 p.m. in the mini theater. Come join us as superheroes arrive to help the students through their standardized tests!!! Performers need to be in the music room by 6:00 pm. Please remember the color shirts for your childs class: Bowles: Orange Crouch: Purple Sazehn: Green Sumpter: Pink White: Yellow Third grade recorder money is now due!! Please send $4 cash or check made payable to DFES to Mrs. Rushe as soon as possible. We will begin playing after the musical is over!

Magnet School News . . .

Officials from Irmo Chapin Recreation Commission will donate nearly $15,000 in environmental-based curriculum and equipment to Dutch Fork Elementary, LexingtonRichland District Fives new environmental magnet school. The materials were made available through a partnership between ICRC and Carolina Biological Supply Company, a leading supplier of science teaching materials. The school will use the items to bolster the schools new magnet program, which will give students an opportunity to study South Carolinas environmental landscape and issues regarding the environment. The Academy of Environmental Sciences at DFES opens this fall.

Marcos Spirit Night Huge Success

Thank you to all our families who supported DFES through the Marcos Pizza Spirit Night. Thanks to you, we raised $324.58 for our school! CONGRATULATIONS to st Mrs. Burwicks 1 grade class for having the most sales and winning a free pizza party from Marcos!!

Spanish Spelling Bee Is Here!

DFES is having a Spanish Spelling Bee Contest For Fourth and Select Fifth Graders! Practice your ABCs and join us! March 31st from 8:10-9:00 a.m. in the mini theater The purpose of the spelling bee is to improve students spelling and cognitive skills in Spanish, to increase their vocabulary and to increase the use of speed reading and pronunciation strategies!
Students improve their spelling and expand their learning regarding vocabulary. As a result, they read and write more effectively. By studying words grouped in thematic categories, students develop cognitive skills. Spelling bee contests improve spelling and spark interest among students. Spelling bee contests create friendly, sportsmanlike rivalry among students.

Diamond Del Visits First Grade

Diamond Dels Gem Mining van will visit first grade on March 13, 2014. Students will explore many different kinds of rocks as they experience the mobile gem mine!

Early Release Day Thursday, March 20 11:40 a.m.

Medication Reminder: No medication can be given at school without a permission slip. You can find the permission slips on our website or feel free to stop by the health room and pick one up. If you have a prescription medication, please note that the MD that has prescribed the medication must sign the permission slip also! If you have any questions please call the health room at 476-3906.
