OnTrack WNC Expands Mortgage Assistance Orientation Workshops to Madison County!

Mortgage loan program helps displaced workers, veterans while they seek new jobs

Marshall- Beginning in February, OnTrack Financial Education & Counseling will offer local information sessions to help people determine if they are eligible for mortgage payment assistance from the NC Foreclosure Prevention Loan Program. The N.C. Foreclosure Prevention Fund makes mortgage payments for qualified unemployed workers, including returning veterans, while they look for jobs or complete job training. The program is offered statewide by the N.C. Housing Finance Agency (NCHFA) and funded by the U.S. Department of the Treasury. OnTrack Financial Education & Counseling (OnTrack WNC) is NCHFAS program partner responsible for helping consumers in western NC. Statewide this foreclosure prevention effort has helped 15,000 North Carolinians who lost jobs. OnTrack WNC has helped over 600 families in western NC obtain almost $13 million dollars worth of assistance. Statewide funding is still available to help another 6,000 homeowners, said Tom Luzon, Director of the Foreclosure Loan Program for OnTrack WNC, and we want to ensure that even more Madison County families get the help they need. To increase awareness and reach more people who might be eligible for assistance, OnTrack WNC has partnered with the Madison County Joblink at the Madison County Career Center to provide Mortgage Payment Program Orientation Workshops. The orientation session which will review program eligibility, terms of the assistance, and documentation required to make an application.

Upcoming Orientation Workshops will be held at the Madison County Joblink Career Center; the dates are Thursday, March 13th 10:00am to 12:00 pm and Thursday, April 10th at 10:00 am to 12:00 pm.  This has been a huge effort that is benefitting the whole state, said A. Robert Kucab, executive director of the N.C. Housing Finance Agency. Since the end of 2010, the N.C. Foreclosure Prevention Fund has saved more than $2.1 billion in property, stabilizing the property values and strengthening local economies. All 100 counties have benefitted.
