Preparing for Worship March 9, 2014 First Sunday in lent

Out of the Whirlwind Have you considered my servant Job?

Rev. Matthew Sturtevant

Scripture: Job 1-2

Out of the Whirlwind: Questions from Job

Lenten Worship Series; March 9-April 6

Then the Lord answered Job out of the whirlwind... Job 38.1
This Lenten season, as we open our hearts to God through contemplation and selfexamination, we turn to one of the greatest stories in Scripture to invite us to both: Job. The story prods us, confuses us, and invites to ask honest questions about where God is when all we see around us is the whirlwind. As we prepare for Holy Week this year, let us ask together: March 9: Have You Considered My Servant Job? Job 1-2 March 16: How Long? Job 19 March 23: Where Are You? Job 23 March 30: Where Were You? Job 38-42.1-6 April 6: Why? Job 42.7-17

A Lenten Visual Journey

We invite you to join us on a Lenten Visual Journey. In recent years, Christian communities have found it a meaningful practice to post pictures online each day of the Lenten season, both as a personal discipline and a shared communal practice. It follows the example of Christ, who taught about the Kingdom using word pictures and visual images. This Lenten season, we invite you to participate by posting in response to a daily word or prompt. Bring a picture to the church office, email one to Pastor Matt at matt@firstbaptistlawrence.com, post it to the church Facebook page, tweet it, or post it on Instagram, using the hashtag #fbclawrencevisualjourney so that we can all share the journey together. Here is a list of the words that we will be posting each day: March 5: Preparation March 6: Sacrifice March 7: Hope March 8: Hungry March 9: Run March 10: Wilderness March 11: Tears March 12: Save March 13: Practice March 14: Shepherd March 15: Rest March 16: Cry March 17: Joy March 18: Sustain March 19: Invite March 20: Vision March 21: Chaos March 22: Peace March 23: Doubt March 24: Community March 25: Verdant March 26: Altar March 27: Tired March 28: Heal March 29: Grace March 30: Bless March 31: Laughter April 1: Solitude April 2: Justice April 3: Anger April 4: Listen April 5: Fear April 6: Serve April 7: Faith April 8: Neighbor April 9: Love April 10: Waiting April 11: Discipline April 12: Light April 13: Journey
