the FIRST GRADE NEWS

MRS. MOHRS CLASS

As your child is reading, help them gure out clues that are in the story that arent told to them directly. For instance, if the sentence read, It was a warm, hot, day... they would know that it must be summer. By learning how to infer, your child is gaining a deeper level of understanding to the story.

Our reading strategy of the month is: Inferring

I am pleased to announce that our class was the top winner in the spring box top collection! I have seriously been trying to win this contest for years, and this is my rst time! I dont know who was more excited (me or the kids)! Pump it Up sponsors the contest and prizes, so we won an ice cream party for being the spring collection winners, which will be scheduled in the next few weeks. I will let you all know once that gets on the calendar. In addition,

BOX TOPS

because we collected the most overall for the whole school year, we also won a Pump it Up party! The only details I know regarding this, are that it will be scheduled after we have the ice cream party, and that it is usually during an off time. To me, that means during the week, and after school, so it will be more if you are able to make it or not. I will be sure to share any details once I nd out more. Thanks for helping support this great cause!

Thank you to all of you who participated in the Science and Author fair last night. The kids had a blast, and I have enjoyed hearing about their projects and stories.
