THE BUSH TELEGRAPH

RAPHAEL HOUSE RUDOLF STEINER SCHOOL NEWSLETTER 7 March 2014

Dear Parents, Caregivers and Friends, Tn koe! What a beautiful day weve had today however, there is no doubt that autumn is here on three mornings this week our wood burners were in action keeping classes warm, additionally we are preparing for Michaelmas in which we celebrate the "festival of strong will" during the autumnal equinox. Historically the Mori name for autumn was ngahuru, the traditional word for ten, because autumn started during the tenth month of the original calendar. Classes 9 and 5 will have both been challenged by the autumn weather while on camp this week. We look forward to their safe return later this afternoon and will no doubt be regaled with anecdotes of horizontal rain, fabulous sunshine and tales of brilliant adventures. Absolutely the best way to keep warm and forget the changeable weather is kapa haka; Te Rp will shortly be announcing a start to a weekly group at Raphael House that will be meeting on a Thursday evening. I am overjoyed that this powerful art form will be living in our kura. Get your poi ready whnau!

Many of you will have already heard that Margee, our 25 Mar friendly Office Manager, has found a new job at the Te Ropu Hui Ministry of Health and will be leaving us on Friday, 28 March. Id like to take the opportunity to thank her for all that she has given to the school in her short time with us. In addition to this, Lay Lay, who has been unwell for some time, will be leaving us. Very many thanks to Lay Lay for his commitment to the school, we wish him well in the future.

Now as you know, our school is blessed with some extremely talented musicians, three of whom are playing in the International Arts Festival soon (look out for the advert later in this pnui and get along to support them). To further strengthen our commitment to musical excellence you will have read the exciting news in last weeks BT about the launch of the itinerant music programme. Dont hesitate to contact Megan for further details: megan.m@raphaelhouse.school.nz And further to this, Raphael House will be entering into the 2014 Big Sing as we forge ahead with greater emphasis on choral work in the Upper School. Its all happening here Lastly, a reminder to you all that next weekend is a long one for us, with no school on Friday, 14 March or Monday, 17 March. So thats no Bush Telegraph next week either hope youll manage without us! Tracks were fairly dry again this year and fast times were predicted. We were in the company of some top talent like Anton Cooper and Kim Hurst, which was very inspirational. For the 5km Race, Lachlann Mackie Year 6 rocketed across the finish line in a very comfortable 1st Place. Also enjoying the 5km race were Tayla Dunlop, and surprise entries by Ella and Imogen Magnusson. New members Ella and Imogen did extremely well, and Tayla improved her last year time immensely. Great stuff ladies. Our 20km entries had a very smooth ride this year and all shared a great challenge. Scott Pearson (class 11) gained another Podium in U19 category of 2nd place, awesome results for Scott after just coming back from camp.

Good race times were posted by all and improved times were respected. A fun experience was had being part of a huge event that has been running for 29 years now, and is talked about World Wide. Raphael House was represented by some very healthy students with a passion for biking, and Im very proud to say who they are. Go House.
