Steven Cohen, Superintendent of Schools BOARD OF EDUCATION Regular Public Meeting Agenda - DRAFT March 11, 2014 The Shoreham-Wading River Central School District Board of Education is the authorized agency responsible for setting educational policy in the District. It consists of seven members who each serve three-year terms and receive no salary or other financial compensation. The meetings, except for Executive Sessions, are held before the public. The Board of Education may convene to Executive Session immediately after opening the meeting. At the end of the Executive Session, the Board of Education will re-convene to the Regular Meeting. Arrival and departure times of the Board of Education members shall be noted in the minutes and within the order of events. A maximum of half hour will be allocated for agenda items Statements of Residents with a three minute limit per individual. Each speaker must be a resident of the District. Residents wishing to make comments or raise questions shall state their name and address. Public discussion is prohibited on matters relating to staff and students at which their reputation, privacy, or rights to due process or the rights of others to due process, could be in some way violated. Residents will be permitted to participate in Board of Education discussion and agenda item Discussion, however Board of Education members will speak first. Each resident will be limited to one input with a two minute maximum. A time limit for residents discussion will be no more than 10 minutes unless a majority of the Board wants to extend the time due to the nature of the topic. Residents will address the Board and not each other during this discussion. Each Board Member voting on a motion shall be permitted to state the reason for doing so and the statement shall be noted in the minutes. The public, in its comments, will refrain from making any direct references to student or staff members. Such references to individual students or staff members are inappropriate in a public forum and should instead be conducted in private conversation with an appropriate member of the staff. Authorization for Legal Notice for Annual Budget / Election Vote: RESOLVED, that the Annual Budget Vote and Election of the Shoreham-Wading River Central School District of the Towns of Brookhaven and Riverhead, in Suffolk County, New York, shall be held on Tuesday, May 20, 2014, between the hours of 7:00 AM and 9:00 PM in the gymnasium of the Shoreham-Wading River High School, Route 25A, Shoreham, New York and the public hearing shall be held on Tuesday, May 6, 2014 at 7:00 PM in the High School Library in said District for the purposes set forth in the annexed notice; BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that said notice (copy attached) be published once in each of four (4) weeks in the seven (7) weeks preceding the Annual Budget and Election Vote in the News Review and The Village Beacon Record, two (2) newspapers having general circulation in the District. The first notice must appear at least 45 days prior to the date of the vote; and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the District Clerk is hereby authorized to amend and/or supplement this notice hereinafter set forth from time to time as in her discretion such amendment may be required; and BE IT RESOLVED, that Grace Hokansen is designated as permanent Chairperson of the Election in accordance with Section 2025 of the Education Law.

Mathematics Competition #1: RESOLVED, that the Board of Education of the Shoreham-Wading River Central School District hereby approves a request by Mr. Daniel Holtzman, Principal of SWR High School, for an overnight / out-of-state trip to Penn State University, in Pennsylvania on May 30 and 21, 2014 to participate in a mathematics competition at a cost to the District of $300.00. Mathematics Competition #2: RESOLVED, that the Board of Education of the Shoreham-Wading River Central School District hereby approves a request by Mr. Daniel Holtzman, Principal of SWR High School, for an overnight trip to Fayetteville-Manlius High School in Syracuse, New York on April 4 and 5, 2014 to participate in a mathematics competition at a cost to the District of $300.00. Obsolete Equipment WHEREAS, the Board of Education of the Shoreham-Wading River Central School District hereby classifies the below list of items as being obsolete, irreparable, no longer in use, and / or of no monetary value; therefore BE IT RESOLVED, the Board of Education of the Shoreham-Wading River Central School District approves the below list of items to be disposed of in accordance with District Policy #5250.
