Cathie drops off library books to the Head Start room and brings back the last batch of books which gives kids extra time with the books which are chosen according to the class theme of the week. Cathie also started Wee Reads on February 14th but has had very low turnout because of weather. b) Adult Programs The Online Book Club met on February 7th discussing the All Iowa Reads book for 2014, Little Wolves by Thomas Maltman. The Knitting group started meeting again at the library on February 13th and decided to meet twice per month on the 2nd and 3rd Thursdays of the month. Brown Bag Book Club met on February 19th with dessert provided by Joyce OTool. Brandie taught Windows 8 tips to librarians in Sac County on February 24th as part of the Iowa Library Services Tech Grant. Brandie also began the Windows 8 series of classes for library patrons on February 25th which will continue each Tuesday through March. 3) Projects/Grants: a) Reader Update Cathie and Joyce finished updating the childrens reader section this month by weeding older books and re-categorizing the readers by using Reading A to Zs leveling system: Pre-Emergent, Emergent, Early Fluent, and Fluent levels. Spokane County Library system in Washington State shared sample flyers and ideas with us. Each reader level has a color coded dot to help parents and kids choose the right level. Flyers were sent to teachers at East Sac Elementary and one teacher requested copies to give to parents at parent/teacher conferences. Several parents have stopped by to check out the new reader shelf. b) Computer Sign-In The public access computer sign-in sheet has been removed from the circulation desk because of privacy issues. Staff will continue to track computer use behind the desk but patrons will not be able to see who has used library computers before them. c) Iowa Library Services Accreditation Sac City Librarys accreditation application was submitted on February 26th along with supporting documentation. Of note, several statistics were generated in this application including turnover rates by material type and percentage of collection added and removed. Statistics in this report and the annual report are available in the library directors office upon request.

d) Big Library Read Sac City Library participated in Overdrives Big Library Read. This is a program through WILBOR where patrons can check out the same eBook simultaneously without having to wait one at a time. The book this spring was Keys to the Kitchen by Food Network star Aida Mollenkamp. The Big Library Read began February 17th and ended March 5th. 4) Advocacy: a) Library Budget The proposed budget has been changed by the city finance committee and Brandie will discuss the changes with the library board at the March 6th library board meeting. Brandie will attend the March 11th city council meeting to give the library annual report. b) Money Smart Week Sac City Library has been chosen to participate in the Money Smart Kids READ event held across Iowa during Money Smart Week April 5th -12th. A state-wide sponsor paid the $600 fee for our library to participate at no charge. Story Hour events will be held on April 10th for children in grades 2nd through 5th along with a grandparent or parent. Both parent/grandparent and child will learn about saving and spending money wisely. Children will take home a book provided by MSW. A local community member will be dressed up as Ben Franklin to help read the story to the kids.
